"I hate water," Jersey said, trembling from head to toe. "I can't swim at all."
-
Ariawyn nodded. "Yeah, I could...tell." She held out her hand to help him up. "If you're ready, we should get moving. Obviously, someone's after me, which means if they catch me, they'll kill you too."
-
"You seem to have a lot of enemies," Jersey said, pushing himself up and rejecting her help. "How did that happen?"
-
"I'm...not a very easily liked person, and I'm too strong for their liking, so I'm a threat." She kicked the ground. "I'm a halfling, too, which isn't that great, either."
-
"Why not leave you alone, if they're scared of you? You aren't causing any trouble, right?" Jersey said.
-
"Well..." She trailed off. "That's..." She sighed and began walking into the forest. "It's a long story."
Ariawyn!!! I'm gonna draw Jersey after I finish my current drawing! :DD)) -
BRO THAT'S AWESOME :DDD))
Jersey flicked an ear. "I've got time. I mean, it's basically the only thing I have." -
Ariawyn chuckled. "Alright. But we have to keep moving."
She sighed softly and began. "A long time ago, there was an elf princess named Aella. The youngest out of four, destined to remain a...replacement for the queen...for all her life. Her home was...well, everything she could've wanted, was there. But she wasn't happy. She had an insatiable thirst for adventure. She snuck out of the Sacred Elven Tree. She left her home...and discovered a world of hurt, war, and poverty. Elves weren't well liked, which was why they stayed in their Tree. Elves who left the tree were likely never to be seen again, slain by humans or doomed to a worse fate. She got lost in a dark forest, but was saved, by none other than a human.
"They fell in love. How could Aella not? The human was kind, witty, and handsome. They had a child. They knew it was forbidden, but...they loved each other. And that was all that mattered.
"But the human was not who he said he was. Irwin Jagger, as he called himself, was not his real name. It was Aeneas Jothyra, the son of the King. As it turned out, he'd left for the same reason as Aella had. Freedom from royalty, and a thirst for adventure. King Vulwin was enraged and sentenced the elf to death, and locked Aeneas in the castle, where he was never heard from again.
"But the child? She survived, saved by the forest itself. She grew up living in trees, speaking to the forest plants, using a bow and protecting the forest animals from danger.
"The King knew the child survived, but he knew next to nothing about her. Until she turned 16. The forest let her go, into the world, where she soon gained a reputation as a strange tree-girl. Not quite elf, not quite human. And they hated her for it. Eventually, the King heard about a girl living in a small town of Pilfer. An elf. A human. And he knew that it was his grandchild, the product of a horrible, forbidden love between a princess elf and a human prince.
"He sent soldiers, assassins, creatures of the darkness after her, but she managed to survive whatever he threw at her. And that just deepened the hate he had for her.
"Three years passed, and the girl disappeared. Some say she died, finally. Some say she turned into a tree. Some say she's still among the humans, living with them. Few have ever seen her, and fewer still know her whereabouts."
Ariawyn finished, eyes away from Jersey. -
WOAH))
"Is that...?" Jersey began tentatively, his ears pinned back in respect to the tragedy of her story. "Is that girl you?" -
"Indeed." Ariawyn breathed. "Only one other person had known other than you. My grandfather. But he died, so, it's just you now."
-
"I'm not the best at keeping secrets," Jersey said, tripping over a tree root as he thought about all the death threats he might get. "But I-I'll certainly try."
-
Ariawyn smiled bittersweetly. "If we're lucky, you won't have to, because we're going to find a way out of here for you."
-
"You could come with me," Jersey suggested. "Then you wouldn't have to run away."
-
Ariawyn bit her lip. "Is it really that simple? To just be able to leave?" She sighed, her eyes softening. "Jersey, I don't know about your world, but everything in this world tries its hardest to stop you. From living peacefully to staying alive with your true love, it stops you. And that's never going to change."
She added under her breath, "Not for me, anyways." -
Jersey squeezed water out of his fluff. "It's never going to change unless you leave this place. You would be better off in my world, I'm sure."
