The last sentence caught Melissa's attention, her eyes widening. "They're not after you, right?!" She exclaimed, rather loudly. She went silent again, cringing. "Sorry."

Terri ruffled her hair with a sigh, looking both frustrated and quizzical. "I assume they're after me, although I'm not sure why. I-I've done everything they've told me to."

Melissa looked confused for a second, a flicker of fear still present in her eyes. "Wh-what do you mean by that?" She took a cautious step towards the other. "You haven't done anything. . .bad, r-right?"

Terri searched Melissa's face, a pained expression in her eyes. "Melissa, I.." she cleared her throat, her eyes fluttering shut before opening again. "I-I have. I didn't want to, but...I did."

The brunette's face drained of color, averting her eyes away from the girl in front of her. "Goodness. . .I. .don't even know what to say. . ." She groaned quietly and rubbed her eyes. How the heck did she end up in this situation in the first place?

Terri buried her face in her hands, both panic and shame crashing over her like a tidal wave. "Melissa, I'm so sorry. I...I got you into this mess, and I don't know how to get you out of it." -

Melissa looked back up, having a guilty look on her face at Terri's state of sadness. She pushed her worries away for a couple of monents, gently putting her hand on Terri's arm to pull her closer. She wrapped her other hand around the other girl's waist, closing her eyes shut. "Listen...we'll get through this together, okay?" -

Terri let out a tired sigh, rubbing her temples with her hands. Something about Melissa's gentle touch stirred some strange emotion in her, and she wasn't sure what it was.
"Mel, you hardly know me. I can't..," she drifted off, a pained look on her face. "I can't promise your safety out there. You'll have to constantly look over your shoulder to make sure nobody's going to stab you in the back. You deserve better than that."
