Inkling and Finpaw played in that part of the forest for a long time. Finpaw showed her how to catch squirrels, and Inkling showed him how to catch fish. Then they played tag. He'd never had so much fun before, Angelpaw wasn't exactly the best candidate for romping around.
-
Deathclaw ran through the forest, and halted at a sand-covered clearing. Sandpaw arrived shortly after, kicking up sand as she went. "Sandpaw, you still haven't completed your mission!" She looked at her paws.
-
Deathclaw scolded her, "I want Adderpaw dead, and I want him dead right now." "Why?" Sandpaw asked, shuddering.
-
"Because he witnessed a murder! Can't you juts do what you're told!?"
-
(just not juts)
-
Reedpebble tilted his head. "Do you want to be punished?" "Well, I did cross the border after all." Voices far away came into earshot: "Do you smell BlazeClan?" "Have they been crossing the borders?" "The scent is fresh!".
A patrol. She looked urgently at Reedpebble. "Go!" he meowed. "I'll cover for you!" Not having enough time to think, Silverpuddle took the chance, dashing away into the trees. -
Why am I doing this? she thought o herself a moment after leaving, I have to take the responsibility of telling the truth. It was by accident, anyway. But I think Reedpebble was right.
-
She crouched and hid under the brambles, straining her ears to listen to the patrol. "Reedpebble! What are you doing so close to the border? And why is there fresh BlazeClan scent here? Did you chase off a trespassing cat?"
-
Reedpebble hesitated. "Well..." he gazed through the trees, and looked into SIlverpuddle's eyes. It somehow said a message to her, something like: Don't worry I'll think of something. She nodded, and he continued. "No. I crossed the border, and BlazeClan's scent must've got on my fur when I came back." What!? How could he lie like that, when he doesn't know what they'll do to him? Then a thought occured to her, he did that for me. He put himself in that position to take me out of it.
-
"Take him to Sunstar," one of them growled. Two cats shoved Reedpebble forward, leading him toward camp.
-
Inkling lifted her head up and scented the air. "It's been a while. You'd better get home soon. Here, take this with you."
She nudged her rabbit and his prey over to him. Finpaw took them with thanks, and left. Inkling watched him go, before taking her fish and leaving. -
The patrol dissapeared with Reedpeble into the trees.
Sandpaw clawed at the ground. "Why me? Can't you get some other cat to do your work?" His eyes turned to slits. "Sandpaw, dear, you are the best cat for the job. I've never met anyone like you." [i]He's lying. He's trying to get me on his side. -
(Oh, I forgot to end the italics. I'll finish it.)
He's lying. He's trying to get me on his side. -
Finpaw returned to camp. He brought the rabbit to Birdflight, an injured warrior. The blue gray she-cat had received a wound that ran down her leg. She purred a welcome to him when he approached, and smiled slyly when he dropped the rabbit in front of her.
"Finpaw, you scoundrel. You've been with a rogue!" she said, her eyes twinkling.
"I'll tell you all about her," Finpaw said, launching into the story. She listened attentively. When he finished, she ate the rabbit.
"I'll keep it a secret. But you watch your hide around Deathclaw and Sandpaw, got it? They're up to something, and if they get wind of this...hmm. Go on and play with Sharppaw."
Sharppaw was a clever light gray tom, and the apple of Birdflight's eye. She loved her nephew dearly. -
Sandpaw nodded. "So what's next?" "Next, after you kill Adderpaw, we will report back to the others." Worry rose in Sandpaw's belly as Deathclaw responded. Others?
