“Like that?” Sophia said, pointing at the sun, it never seemed to hurt her eyes. A chariot rode in front of the blinding light, casting a shadows over them all.
-
"What the-" Alex said, his eyes large and wide.
-
“Strange, how would a being be able to get up there?” Sophia questioned, staring up once again to see the same golden chariot swaying through the sky, some sort of person holding onto the reins of the horses that pulled it through the sky.
“Holy cow! That must be Apollo!” -
Alex pinched himself. It wasn't a dream. "Oh jeez."
-
"How –" Audrey said. She simply couldn't explain it. She stared up at the sky in bewilderment
-
“Alright, that’s cool. This is getting a little freaky,” Sofia said, brushing her hair out of her face, “I have no idea what to do now, should be wait for another note?”
Just then, a car door slammed shut and a man in a suit in tie started towards them. Sofia glared at him until he stood in front of them all.
“Sofia Welbrooke, daughter of Apollo, Hamilton Ironwill, son of Ares, Cazier Craig, son of Hades, and finally Audrey, daughter of Athena. My name is Hermes, and I believe it’s my job to be your guardian.” -
Audrey stared at the man. This had to be a joke. But it wasn't. She somehow knew it couldn't be. "Our guardian?" she asked .
-
“Yes, why else would your real parents send me down here? Now, we should make haste, they’re very eager to see you. Any questions on the way will be answered, don’t worry.” Hermes said, wondering back to his small car, “Hurry here.”
Sofia stared, it seemed right, this man called himself Hermes, but it didn’t feel completely honest. She stared at the others, wanting them to respond before they followed a stranger into a packed car. -
"Don't you know the rule, 'don't get into a car with strangers?'" Audrey said. She felt strange about this, and not a good strange.
-
Sofia stayed up in the tree, cautious about the man, “Hey, why don’t you give us some proof that you’re actually Hermes!” She yelled, cupping her hands around her mouth.
“Do I have to? Very well, I’m Hermes. Is that good enough for you? Or will I have to send a quick message to the gods?” -
"Trust isn't given, it's earned," Audrey said.
-
Hermes sighed and made his way into the car, pulling out a scroll of golden parchment. He read it aloud, “Here’s what I’ve written to Zeus, ‘Send a sign that these children should come with me.’ Believe it or not, I’m Hermes. Now to wait for Zeus.” He said as a gust of wind carried the paper into the clouds.
-
Audrey waited, not knowing what to expect
-
Suddenly, a booming sound erupted the sky, seeming to shake the ground. With a yelp, Sofia tumbled from the tree and landed flat on her face.
Lighting struck the grass and let out a cringing boom. -
"GAH!" Audrey leaped off the ground, and out of the way, doing her best NOT to get struck by lightning. The lightning heated everything up, she was surprised there wasn't a fire. She wondered if she had gone deaf from the thunder. "Okay, I think I get it," she said. She could hear a little bit. It would probably be a few minutes before she could hear all the way.
