"That makes two of us." He says then digs through his bag to find the paper that told him
-
"I think . . . history?" Rasia said.
-
"Is that what you have?" Xavier said while he pulled out his paper and opened it "Looks like I have history too."
-
"Ok, let's run over there quick," Rasia said.
-
"Ok." Xavier said already heading that way
-
They got there just in time before the teacher started teaching. The teacher peered at them menacingly, but didn't say a word. Rasia quickly sat in an open desk.
-
Xavier quickly sat down in an empty seat too.
'Just in Time.' He thought to himself while he rested his head on his desk -
Rasia showed the teacher that she was paying attention, you know, to show that she hadn't meant to be late, and to avoid punishment, but it slowly dwindled, and she was very bored.
-
Xavier started doodling random things on a piece of paper, to stay awake.
-
"Miss Avalon, I will ask you to pay attention," the teacher said.
Rasia jerked in surprise.
"I had thought that teaching about odd things that happened in the Civil War would be an interesting thing to learn," the teacher said. "Come up here, and stand in front of the class."
Rasia walked up there. "I can see why you like it up here," she said. "Excellent view. You can see the whole classroom."
There were a few snickers, and the teacher told them to shut up. "I'll ask you a question on something I haven't covered, but was going to. Let's see if you know it. What happened at St. Albans, Vermont?"
Rasia smiled slightly. She had used this as part of her report of odd things in the Civil War for fun. She spoke.
"In the late afternoon of October 13, 1864, in St. Albans, Vermont. He didn’t let people know very much about himself, except that his name was Bennett Young, and really loved the Bible and fishing. That Wednesday, he drew a pair of Colt revolvers. He said, quote, “Gentlemen, I am a Confederate officer, and my men have come to take your town. Anyone who resists will be shot" unquote Formal, polite, honest, and blunt.
He’d been in Canada for months, gathering escaped prisoners of war who had fought for the Confederacy, why they’re in Canada, I don’t know, and had been conducting raids in Northern cities and towns that seemed easily takeable.
This was the most northern raid in the Civil War. 21 of Young’s men came into the town. Some robbed the three banks that where there of $208,000, and others held townspeople prisoner. Some residents shot at the raiders. One Confederate got fatally wounded, and one person from the town got killed. They tried to burn down the town, but their explosives were duds.
They escaped into Canada, where they were caught by the Canadian constables. The Canadians returned to the town the stolen money that the raiders had left. They charged them with violating Canada’s neutrality, but a month later they were dropped because they didn’t have enough evidence. The raiders escaped"
The teacher sneered at her, abviously angry that he had been defeated by a teenager. "Go sit down," he said. Rasia did so, trying to hide her smile. It was always fun showing up the teachers. -
(Wow)
Xavier listened to Rasia answer about what happened at St. Albans, Vermont.
'Wow I wonder when she had learned all of that.' Xavier thought to himself before me went that to doodling on his paper.
He looked at his completed drawing and realized he had drawn a short comic strip of his and Rasia sword fighting, but in the end he won. -
(I copied and pasted that from an actual report I did. It was fun learning about all that stuff.)
Then the bell rang, and everyone left. The school-day was done. Rasia went to her locker to get her stuff out. -
(I barely payed attention in my history class, I only know the most popular battles.)
Xavier noticed Rasia and walked up to her "Hey" He said as he got closer -
(See, our teacher did this thing where each person got to choose what we did for the history test on the Civil War. I decided to do an essay on odd things of the Civil War.)
Rasia realized that there was a person talking to her. She turned to see who it was and saw Xavier. "Hey," she said. -
"Nevermind, I forgot what I was going to ask." Xavier said while he tried to remember what he wanted to ask but failed
