beepbeepmouse NewbieCredit to katqueen45 for this brilliant idea.
This will be a series of short scenes that are written as if two (or more) people are responding. I'm looking to enhance my writing capabilities while building on some of my characters' personalities and background. -
Name: Nicholas Hyacinthia Langille-Fane
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Species: Vampire
Personality: Cocky, arrogant, flirty, and mentally unstable. Prone to making irrational decisions that lead to no good. Part of him wants to get control over his behavior and follow his uncle's lead, but the other part of him wants all of his family's attention and feels as if this is the only way to get it.
Short bio: His parents had sex on a whim and he was born. His mother claims him as hers, but she has neglected him most of his life and doesn't really treat him as her son. So, Nicholas idolized his father despite his habits with relationships, drugs, and drinking.. until they suddenly lost contact. Without his father around, he was forced to live with his mother's family. There, he found comfort with his uncle, Cecil, who is doing his best to keep Nicholas from making life-devastating mistakes.
Other: -Goes by "Nico," a nickname bestowed onto him by his father.
-Has two cross earrings that he wears quite.. religiously. -
Name: Céall Motoki (Pronounced "seh-all")
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Appearance: (Blonde hair, blue eyes)
Species: Selkie
Personality: Thoughtful, leader-like, gentle, and kind. Has a habit of putting others before himself. He has a gift of being able to see "through" people and understand their inner thoughts without actually being able to, well, read them. Quite the people person.
Short bio: He was Néann's first born, and as such, he was raised to be the best king he could ever be. His birth father died in a tragic accident when he was thirteen, forcing his mother to remarry since Céall was not quite ready to rule to kingdom. Silbes brought Qui into the family, which made Céall feel further pressure to be a strong and capable heir to the throne in order to protect both her and his sister. Unfortunately for him, Silbes recently died to Nicholas's hands; Céall has to find his own mate in order to rule over the entire kingdom, and fast.
Other: -He thinks that he's incapable of love, but he's really just a raging homosexual (and doesn't quite know it yet).
-Has acquired a smoking addiction after an encounter with a handsome boy that brought him to a smoking lounge on their first "date". His mother has no clue (yet, anyway). -
Name: Néann Motoki (Pronounced "neh-ahn")
Age: 49
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Species: Selkie
Personality: Cold, harsh, spiteful, and impulsive. Prior to her first husband's death, she was happy and loving towards all. However, as time has passed on, she's become bitter and has a keen hatred for the world around her.
Short bio: Néann's first husband died unexpectedly during a patrol in the ocean that bordered their kingdom. She was full of so much grief and anguish, but she didn't have time to process her loss; the kingdom needed a level-headed ruler, and she had to marry another selkie who could take on the roles of the kingdom. Silbes was nothing like her first husband. He was abrupt, selfish, and into monogamy; he often told Néann that she was ugly and that he only married her for power. This toxic marriage lead her to despise others and develop an unhealthy attachment to her son and daughter (while simultaneously mistreating Silbes's daughter).

beepbeepmouse NewbieNicholas crept through the empty hallway, keeping his body pressed as close to the wall as he could manage. Every now and then, he'd glance over his shoulder, trying to make sure that nobody was coming his direction. He couldn't afford to get caught sneaking in this late. Uncle Cecil hadn't negotiated with that angry old fish for him to f--- it up this fast. However, he couldn't help it; the need to explore different worlds was like an itch that wouldn't go away no matter how viciously he scratched at it.
When he finally made it to the door at the end of the hallway, Nicholas relaxed, rubbing his hands together and sighing softly. He had made it. He wasn't going to be in deep s---, at least not for now. He reached out and slowly turned the knob, putting a small amount of pressure on the door. When there was enough space for him to slip inside, he did so, carefully closing the door shut behind him.
The first thing he noticed was the awful stench of smoke. Nicholas wrinkled his nose in disgust, turning while simultaneously covering his nose. The lights were off, but the soft red glow of the lit cigarette stood out to the vampire clear as day.
"Dude, you need to get something that smells better," Nicholas grumbled, running his hand along the wall in an attempt to find the light switch. "That is just f---ing vomit inducing." -
beepbeepmouse NewbieCéall hadn't heard Nicholas come into his bedroom, but he had seen the small crack of light flood in from the hallway during the brief moment the door had been open. At the sound of his voice, Céall laughed, sitting up straight on the bed and pulling the cigarette away from his face.
"If I were to get something that smells better, I wouldn't get to hear you b----ing. And we all know just how much I love to hear you b----, Nico," he said, clearing his throat. He could just barely hear Nicholas's nails scratching against the wall. Even though he couldn't necessarily see, he could tell that the scratching was coming from the left side of the room.
"The light switch is on the right side.. You're a little far off, bud. I know it's been a week, but I expected you to remember this place a little better than that." -
beepbeepmouse NewbieNicholas rolled his eyes, scooting to the opposite side of the door. "Oh, don't worry, I'm sure I'd find something else to b---- about. It's definitely one of my most divine passions.." When his fingers finally found the switch, he hastily flicked it upwards, wincing as light flooded the room.
"Some rooms have the switch on the left hand side, so I was just going off of that," Nicholas explained, turning around to look at the other prince. "Even an esteemed man like myself can be misguided sometimes~"
He suddenly jerked back a bit as he finished his sentence. His brain had finally processed what else Céall had said. "I'm sorry, did you just say a week? It's only been a day, maybe two at most.. I went from one realm to the other, but it definitely didn't feel like an entire.. Week.." He trailed, realizing that time worked differently across realms. He swallowed, his muscles tensing in uneasiness. -
beepbeepmouse NewbieCéall rose from his bed, dropping the cigarette on the floor before him. He bent over to grab a shoe and carefully pressed the heel against the head to put out the flame.
"Yeah, it's been a week or so," he grunted, picking up the remainder of the cigarette and throwing it in the direction of his trash can. It made it in, making a small sound as it fell to the bottom of the bag. He turned his attention to Nicholas.
"Don't worry. I convinced mom that you were just lurking in the shadows every time she came to check on me. Said it's just a thing vampires do. She's been too tired to really question it, so.." He shrugged, sighing and looking away.
"Luckily for you, we haven't been attacked by beasts.. Or anything, really." He pursed his lips, smirking slightly. Nicholas was one of the few people he could be crude with. "Or is it unlucky? Since I'm still alive, which means... you still have a job to do." -
beepbeepmouse NewbieNicholas glanced at Céall and narrowed his eyes when he saw the smirk on his face. "You're the unlucky one, fish boy. You have to get married to someone you won't even care about all because your mom is too scared to rule the way my grandmother does."
He stalked past Céall, crossing his arms and dropping down onto the bed. The smell of smoke was stronger here, but Nicholas was tired of standing. He put his chin in his hand and stared intently at the other prince.
"I didn't have to come back, you know," Nicholas said loudly, closing his eyes and swinging his feet back and forth. "I could have left and never showed up in this realm ever again. Your mom would have never found me where I was!" -
beepbeepmouse NewbieCéall spun around to face Nicholas as he sat down on his bed. He wanted to say something snarky back, but Nicholas wasn't wrong at all. He was the unlucky one, and his mother was most certainly afraid. There wasn't much he could do about either of those things.
"If you didn't have to come back, then why did you?" Céall gave Nicholas a look, knowing that would make the vampire uncomfortable. "You've only got two weeks left to help me build up a friend circle and find a heir.. If you're so certain you could have gotten away, why bother coming back?"
Céall felt like he knew Nicholas better than he had ever known anybody else, perhaps even more than himself. Of all of the things Nicholas could do, there was just one thing he couldn't: Keep his mouth shut. He knew full and well that even if Nicholas didn't want to admit why, he would, all because Céall knew the right buttons to press.
