The tree multiplied into many, scetching itself into a drawing of an amazing enchanted forest before the drawing disappeared all together. Soon words started to write themselves, telling her directions for the forest paths.
-
“Wh-wha??” She jumped up surprised, but then paused. She turned to her window and saw her parents were both still at work. She quickly scooped up the book and then ran out of the house following the directions, until she found herself in the forest, once more. This time, she found a red bench, similar in color to the mail box. She sat down and then opened the book again, looking for another message.
-
Everything went blank again, before a story appeared.
Once long ago in another dimension, this forest was ruled by a kind, brave, loyal Princess named Katana. Skilled in battle, smart in mind, and kind in heart, the Princess took great care of her kingdom. Until the day of her betrothal.
Katana was expected to choose a Prince to marry by the end of the summer. Maligner, a lustful prince talented in the dark arts, heard of this and came to Katana’s kingdom. He used a love spell on her to make her choose him, however it didn’t work. She was unable to fall in love with man. Enraged, the Prince cast a spell on the kingdom and all who lived in it, turning them to ghost. Back then it was unthought of for a woman to love another woman rather than a man, so The Prince thought he was giving an eternal sentence when he made it so true love could break the curse. -
Mick was speechless, “poor katana... I wish... I wish there was something I could do to help her... But why? Why is this book telling me this story and lead me here?” She was muttering all of this to herself. She sighed.
-
The book went blank before glowing red, the red glow surrounding the girl before disappearing, everything in the same state it was before, except the trees were arranged a bit differently and a beautiful flower path stretched in front of Mick.
-
Mick stood up from the bench and looked at the flowery path, “oh my god! I...” once again she was speechless. Mick’s eyes widened and she held the book under her arm, then followed down the beautiful path of flowers.
-
The path lead to a kingdom of houses like the one at the front of the forest, in the center a large, ruined castle with vines of roses growing around it. Enchanted plants of flowers and fruit trees grew thickly in the kingdom, the light from the setting sun making them look plain, since the kingdom looked it’s best at night.
-
Mick became overwhelmed with the scene. Her. Eyes couldn’t open any wider. She stood, gawking at the scene. She had never experienced anything like this except in stories. She finally pulled it together and pushed on, now wandering the kingdom, towards the ruined castle.
-
As the sun began to set and the wind blew, a gentle hum filled the castle from the wind blowing through certain parts. In the courtyard of the castle was a swing, where the ghost of a certain princess slowly appeared, swinging back and forth.
-
Mick recognized the girl a bit... she connected it with a few features from the story. She slowly approached the swing, “hello? Umm... are you... Katana?” She asked awkwardly.
-
Katana stopped swinging and looked up, startled by the girl. “The sun is setting...” she whispered. However before she could explain anything, the moonlight showered over them, turning the girl into a ghost as fireflies floated around them. “I... I’m sorry about this... I was starting to think no one would find that damn book... The book’s powers won’t work until the sun rises again, which means you’re stuck here, at least for the night.” Katana explained softly. “Yes... my name is Katana... Please don’t hate me for that book bringing you into this curse...” She whispered.
-
Mick’s looked confused until she looked at her now translucent figure, “I... um.. it’s alright. I think? So you’re real? -no I shouldn’t say that, that would be rude! Um... well I’m sorry for what happened here. With the evil suitor and curse...” she said trying to make herself sound calm, although she was a bit panicked.
-
Katana chuckled, knowing the girl’s panic. “Don’t worry. When you go back to your own world tomorrow it will be like you never left. You’ll end up in the same place and time you found the book.” Katana assured her, having memorized the rules of the curse. “I could show you around if you like.” Katana offered, the moonlight repairing the castle to its former glory, as well as the rest of the kingdom.
-
Hearing katana say that made mick feel more relaxed, “ thank you... i’d Like that, thank you...” she said looking down a bit.
-
“So, you know a bit about me I suppose... Tell me a bit about yourself.” Katana began as they hovered through the castle as it repaired itself.
