"What we're learning today is..." He turned to the board and wrote 'Mean, Median, Mode and Range'
Courtney blinked, that was the easiest thing she had ever learnt. -
Joshua wrote down the words the teacher was writing.

"Mean, median, and mode are three kinds of "averages". There are many "averages" in statistics, but these are, I think, the three most common, and are certainly the three you are most likely to encounter in your pre-statistics courses, if the topic comes up at all." Mr. John said.
"The "mean" is the "average" you're used to, where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers. The "median" is the "middle" value in the list of numbers. To find the median, your numbers have to be listed in numerical order from smallest to largest, so you may have to rewrite your list before you can find the median. The "mode" is the value that occurs most often. If no number in the list is repeated, then there is no mode for the list." He explained. -
Blair tucked her hair behind her ears and listened to the teacher.
Courtney took notes.
"The "range" of a list a numbers is just the difference between the largest and smallest values." Mr. John continued. -
Abi was sleeping. Debbie took notes of everything the teacher said, then wacked Abi with a fly swatter. "I'm up! I'm up! Numbers, Numbers. Business, numbers." Abi yelled. "Is this working?" Abi whispered to Debbie. "No, UniKitty." Debbie replied. "Yay!" Abi yelled.

David chuckled a little at Abi's antics. Joshua tried not to fall asleep a write notes but he was slipping in and out of being awake and asleep.

Mr. John frowned, "Okay, I'm going to give a " test" to know if you all were actually listening. "
Then he wrote on the board, "Find the mean, median, mode, and range for the following list of values:
13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13"
"Begin now." He sat down on his chair and wore his headphones.
Courtney and Blair began immediately. -
"Miss..." The teacher began. "High." Abi told him. "Hello." The teacher sighed. Debbie couldn't help but laugh with the rest of the class. The teacher huffed and returned to teaching.

Abi raised her hand. "Yes Miss..." The teacher began. "High." Abi told him. "Hello." The teacher replied with a slight annoyance. Debbie couldn't help but laugh. "Sorry Mr..." Abi began. "John." The teacher replied. "Ain't calling you by your first name teach." Abi laughed. "Anyways. The mode is bad luck. I'm very superstitious. Can I skip class?" Abi asked.

"Skip class...Skip class?" Mr. Johnson smiled, "No."

Joshua started getting really annoyed at Abi. He actually considered using his powers to throw a gem at her and risk being exposed.

"Okay." Abi sighed. But she could still take her joke further. She painted her desk green and painted a purple number seven on it. "This should prevent the bad luck!" She cheered, putting a four leaf clover eraser on her pencil.

Courtney was done with the test, Blair was too. The class all said at once, "We're done Mr. Johnson."
"Great!" He said. -
Joshua finished the test and said "Done."
