Charlie sat on the porch and said "Why did I have to say that? Now I made her uncomfortable."
-
Chelsea climbed up the tree and watched Charlie from the tree. She blushed as she remembered what he said... It was probably a joke or something. She thought to herself. She climbed down, was amazed that she could climb so easily, and returned to the porch. "Turns out I'm good at climbing trees." She told him as she sat down.
-
-
Charlie said 'I saw that. You're a lot better than I am. I always fall off."
-
"Well I don't think they have trees in the artic tundra. So you should be good." Chelsea replied. The frog was gone. So there wasn't much excuse to look at the ground. So she looked at Charlie as she talked to him.
-
Charlie said "Yeah you got a point there. I just hope no one relies on me for navigation. I get lost on my way to the bathroom."
-
"The captain will probably navigate. You're just there to pick which one you want to tame, name it, and take them home so they know you're their partner. That's what the chief told me." Chelsea told him. "You know... I wonder if the Elephant is evolved from the mammoth, or if it's the other way around. Because a mammoth has fur. Which is a physical advantage. Unless their mental personalities are different." Chelsea wondered outloud again. She decided to cover it up with "Uh... You know. Because mammoths are soft and cuddly, right? And Elephants aren't." She added.
-
Charlie said "Okay, why do you keep doing that? You sound smart one minute, then silly the next. Is that deliberate?"
-
"I don't know what you're talking about." Chelsea lied, laying down. "Trees are tall." She mumbled, trying to make him forget she was smart.
-
Charlie just lay down beside her and looked up. He thought maybe she was scared of her smarts, which she shouldn't be.
-
Chelsea wondered why she had been blurting her thoughts lately... At least she wasn't blurting personal information. "Trees are pretty too. Some trees anyway." She sighed. In her head she counted the different kinds of trees.
-
Charlie humored Chelsea and said "Yeah they are very pretty. I wonder how old they are."
-
Chelsea knew that you could tell how old a tree was by looking at its age rings. She sighed, giving up the charade for now and walking to the forest. She found a tree that had fallen over and checked. "This one was thirty eight years old when it fell." She whispered after counting the rings.
-
Charlie saw Chelsea leave and just let her go. He was still wondering if she even liked him. He would have to ask her.
-
Chelsea saw he didn't follow her and was a little relieved. She took a flat log that was shaped like a tire (except no hole.) and rolled it to the cabin. She wondered if she should continue the charade. She placed it down and counted the rings. Wondering whether or not to say the answer outloud as she sat on it. She decided to keep quiet as she sat on the 41 years old piece of wood.
