(cries a tiny bit I wrote like two paragraphs in the DaiSuga fic and then deleted it because they were CRAP. I've never had block this bad--)
"My family is, yes," He chewed on his lip again, stopping when he tasted iron. Neddy pressed the back of his glove against the wound, sighing. "But I'm not. This is the first race I've even placed in, in months. But you're the heir to the company, hm? Is it as stressful as I would imagine?"
Neddy knew he was speaking a bit out of turn, being impolite. But he couldn't help it. The trophy in his father's hands, the heat, and the still dispersing crowd around him was making him uncomfortable. He wanted nothing more than to slip away to home, so skip out of any more interviews and all the other dumb stuff his father was sure to make him participate in.
"Lyon, correct?"
He hadn't even notice his dad turn around. Neddy grimaced, and sucked in a breath, shooting Henry an apologetic look. Of course his dad would recognize the son of such a powerful company. His father knew all about that stuff.
"I'm Author Carth, it's a pleasure to meet you," He stuck out his hand with a feral grin, reminding his son of a big cat, hunting and hungry for it's next meal. "Is your father around? Would you like to join us at our victory party? It's tradition, and we'd love to have you." His other hand clamped onto Neddy's shoulder firmly, warning him not to ruin this opportunity. -
(me all the time-- gotta find your muse, my son ;u; )
"In months, huh... Well, you have potential. Keep at it." Henry hummed, noticing a spot of blood on Neddy's lips before he could cover it. "Yes, it can be a bit stressful. But I've known about everything for years. My father says that I should be more than prepared to take over when he retires."
His eyes shifted to the larger man, his lips curving into another forced smile. "Mr. Carth, I should've known you'd be here, supporting your blood, I assume?" He didn't like the look on his face and had half a mind to brush off the handshake, but appearance and reputation meant a lot in this trade. The blonde grasped the hand held out to him firmly. "I'm afraid my father couldn't make it this evening. He has a great deal of work to do this evening. Ah, how jealous he'll be when I tell him of this, he would've wanted to go. Just give me a time and place." His eyes shifted back to Neddy, a more genuine smile tugging at his lips. "I look forward to seeing you." -
(I outlined it and sorted out chapter titles, but I just wanna wriiite)
"I've been racing since the day I turned eighteen," Neddy huffed out a breath, diverting his eyes when his father spoke. The hand on his shoulder left after a few seconds, and he rolled it, pouting his lips in a silent, 'ow.' The last few reporters were packing up, the last couple handfuls of people waiting in the audience were probably fans hoping to meet them. As if his father would ever allow him to linger to do more than talk to the press, or people like Henry, who were important.
Mr. Carth spat out the address of their home, but then paused to pull a notepad and pen from his pocket. He wrote it down, along with a phone number, and held it out towards Henry. "I've got a bit of business to attend to, so I won't be available. But, if you need something, there's William's cell phone number. Be seeing you, Mr. Lyon." With that, he left, clearly expecting his son to follow.
Neddy had once again been watching, long enough to notice the change in expression when Henry looked from his father to him, and it warmed him just a tiny bit. "You don't have to come, you know," He assured him, fiddling with one of the buttons on his shirt. "The parties are always really, really boring. I fall asleep during most of them.." -
(Then write. There's a revision phase for a reason .o. )
Henry gave Neddy another smile before forcing his attention back on the boy's father, listening to him enough to catch anything important. He was glad to see that most of the press and lingering fans had left. "I'll be sure to let William know if there's anything I need. See you." He responded while taking the slip of paper.
Once the man was out of earshot, he grinned at Neddy with a slight chuckle. "If it means I can speak with you again, I'll gladly come. No party could possibly be more dull than sitting through my father's business meetings. And..maybe we can make it more interesting for each other. I won't let you fall asleep on me." Henry teased lightly before gesturing to the paper in his hand. "I'll be seeing you, William. I promise." -
(I DO NOT PROOF READ YOU KNOW THIS)
"I usually end up falling asleep in my food, not on the person sitting next to me," Neddy hummed, desperate for a bit more of conversation before Henry left. "And, you can call me Neddy. All my friends and family do, save for my father and sister," He paused, hesitating before adding the next part.
"And, you're allowed a plus one. So, if you have a girlfriend you'd like to bring.." He trailed, knowing he was being blatantly obvious in what he was hinting at. He tried to be smooth, flicking a piece of hair out of his face.
At that exact moment, though, Vince and Leo came running, hurdling over the small fence of the winners circle. "Uncle Neddy," Leo called, waving his hand in the air as if his loud voice wasn't enough to draw attention. "Vince broke one of the lights in the bathroom with his shoe-"
"I did not." -
(YOU NEED TO START
my head hurts ;; )
"That would make such a mess though. Can't have that either." Henry laughed lightly, catching his hint. "A plus one? Perhaps I'll bring someone close to me, someone who's like family to me and also a part of the trade."
"Uncle?" The blonde perked up at the sight of the two boys that came running up to them, smiling a bit before nodding towards Neddy. "I'll leave you to your family then. I need to return home and take care of some things. But again, I promise I'll see you later, Neddy. And I hope you'll stay awake to talk some more." With that, he flashed one last grin and made his way out, discreetly fiddling with the paper in his hand. -
(no father
whhy)
So, Neddy grinned, he didn't have a girlfriend. How.. Convenient. But, then, what evidence did he have that Henry was even gay? None. Call it a gut feeling, and instinct. (Or, gay-dar, as Vince insisted every time his uncle even suggested that someone might play for a certain team.)
He nodded, letting his face break into a smile as he watched Henry leave, exhaling as soon as he was swallowed by the glare of the sun. Neddy turned back to his nephews and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Did anyone see you break the light, Vince?"
"No once saw me not break the light."
"Then let's go home." -

(yes son
because putting my hair in a ponytail does that)
Henry chuckled to himself as he caught some of the conversation that went on between Neddy and his assumed nephews. The young businessman had always valued his own family, blood or not, despite some of the more strained relationships. Family was important, at least that's what he believed.
Letting out a gentle sigh as he hurried through the heat to his car, the blonde took out his phone and proceeded to call a family friend. If he had to take anyone with him, it had to be someone he'd be working with in the future. To make proper connections all around of course. "Now before you throw a fit about having to go, understand just how important this will be not just for father's company, but your future as well."
"It's not like I asked for any of this.." A young voice grumbled at him from the other end of the phone. "I'm only fourteen, can't I just live the next four years in peace?"
"I know how much you want to be like anyone else, but both of our fathers would be upset if we let the opportunity slip out of our hands. Besides, I think you'll enjoy it, Mala. There should be a boy around your age there."
"Oh goody, someone my age. We have so much in common." The youth responded sarcastically before hanging up. -
(screeches)
It wasn't that long of a ride home, and despite the looming dinner, Neddy stopped to grab fast food with his nephews. He was glad that this race, at least, had been relatively close to his home town. In few more weeks he'd be traveling all over the country to race. Once, his brother had been invited overseas for a huge event, that he'd come in second place for.
He actually sort of missed being referred to as, "Noel Carth's little brother!" The name was still whispered among crowds, thrown around as a nasty insult when he lost. When Noel had dropped out entirely after his accident, Neddy had wanted to stop as well, but his father would have none of it.
And, now he was too far in over his head anyways. As heir to a huge piece of property, multiple thoroughbred farms and money-winning horses, he didn't have any choice.
"So, is that boy coming to dinner?" Vince dipped a fire in his milkshake, sending Neddy a toothy grin when he nodded. -
(swats)
Henry couldn't help giving the younger boy a sympathetic smile, seeing him pout while staring out the window. "Your face will get stuck that way if you keep doing that, you know." He received a grunt in response and rolled his eyes. "I won't make you go to anymore after this, Mala, I promise."
The dark-haired boy turned to him, huffing, "I wish I didn't have to do any of this at all. I don't know why you're doing it either. You hate it as much as I do."
"Of course I do, but it's what father wants. He's taught me everything up to this point. Plus...working with the Carths, maybe sponsoring them in the future, wouldn't be so bad." The blonde smiled as he drove to his home. He'd picked Malakai up early to make sure he wasn't dressed in "doom and gloom" attire at the party. The boy avoided suits like they were the black plague and preferred dress pants with sweaters or light shirts. But his choices always seemed dark. Too dark for a business party. "Just bare with it for one evening. And just so you know, I'm picking your outfit." Another more frustrated grunt as the brunette turned away from him again. -
Once home, after suffering a good deal of teasing from both Vince and Leo, Neddy locked himself into his room to try and figure out what to wear. His closet was a walk in, with a bench in the middle. The bench, like all the other things he owned, was functional in more than one way- It had a shelf at it's base that he stored his nicer shoes in, exempting his riding boots. Those went on another rack entirely.
He took time to strip out of his sweaty clothes and shower, blow drying and styling his hair. When he was sixteen, he had gotten pink highlights to compliment his honey-blond hair. His father had almost crucified him for it, but he was considering renewing the style soon. It had looked good, almost everyone had told him. And Neddy took a great deal of pride in looking good.
In the end, he chose a deep blue suit with a silky, silver collared shirt, and a bow tie that matched it perfectly. He was picker than he would like to admit, as he'd gotten home a good while ago and now only had about an hour before the party would commence. With a sigh, he flopped back on his bed and picked his phone up all the nightstand. -
With much struggle and retaliation, Henry managed to get Malakai in some black dress pants, a crisp, white button-up shirt, and a deep blue vest. "There. Don't you look dashing? I was going to make you wear something a bit lighter, but blue is such a nice color. Looks good with your hair and eyes." He grinned as the younger boy blushed while looking himself over in the mirror, rolling up his sleeves.
Henry himself was dressed in a vanilla suit with a pale gold, silk vest underneath. Light colors had always been his favorites. Sometimes a nice vivid red. Seeing as his hair was a strawberry blonde, shades of red really made it pop while lighter colors seemed to dim it down. "Everything will be starting within an hour. I think we should be fashionably late, don't you agree, Mala?" He smiled at the other, watching his dark eyes roll, and grabbed his phone to call Neddy's cell. It'd be nice to hear the young victor once more before being bombarded at the after-party by businessmen seeking his approval. -
The phone started buzzing with an incoming call as soon as Neddy had it in his hands- From an unknown number. Normally, he'd let it go straight to voicemail, but he knew who this was, so he answered after three rings.
"Hello~?" He wasn't one for fancy, stiff full-named greetings. He sort of hoped that Henry would recognize his voice, anyways. The door to his bedroom opened without being knocked on, and he scowled at the offender- Vince, once again, most likely to terrorize him. Neddy tried to wave him out, pointing at the phone. Instead of leaving, his nephew held up a white envelope and wiggled it back and forth, grinning. He mouthed from Elias, and Neddy actually squealed. Elias lived several states down, deep into the countryside, where he raised and partially trained select, carefully bred horses. He was Neddy's only and closest friend, the only person that he knew his own age. Letters from him were rare, and he loved them. -
Before Henry could respond, he heard Neddy squeal on the other end of the phone. He rose a brow and smiled, "That's quite a way to say hello, Neddy. Or is there something else that has your attention right now?" This wouldn't have been the first time someone answered his call with an unintended noise or phrase. His parents did that often themselves.
Malakai stood awkwardly off to the side, still checking himself over in the mirror. Even though he dreaded going to things like this, if he was forced to, he wanted to make sure everything was perfect. He was glad to not have to wear a tie, unlike Henry who adorned one that matched the rest of his clothes, neatly tucked under his vest.
