Laurence had managed to get his hands free of the wall but he couldn't move them enough to use his powers. Laurence held Shelby in the gap between his hands -

Chaos saw them and he landed -
Laurence dripped teh bond Nad held Shelby close" Shh sweetheart your ok" he said. He didn't want to vocally state that his liver was here in case Hojo was observing them and hadn't realised yet.
