There is many Guardians for all sorts of things such as Night, Winter, Animals and so on. The Guardians were chosen by the Great One to protect what the Great One decided they should protect, for example the Guardian of the Night protects the Night. Each Guardian was given a power based on their main skill. None of the Guardians can age after they reach their prime but they can still be killed. One of the Great One's laws says that Guardians cannot have children, but one day multiple Guardians have children, who all turn out to have the power based on their main skill and the not aging past their prime. Since they have to be able to do their jobs the parents aren't punished to severely, but, the Great Guardian, the leader of the Guardians and is also known as the Guardian of the Guardians, forbids the parents to see their children. Now, since leaving children to fend for themselves is illegal and the guardians are not allowed to kill, the Great Guardian says that on their sixteenth birthday, the first age of adulthood, they will be sent off, and if they can defeat the Guardians arch-enemy, Kritanta, they can return and be Guardians. The children don't learn how to read, but they do learn how to count, and of course, talk. They do get to go outside. They are a close group of friends, but some of them are closer than others. No one but the parents know that the Great One wanted them to have kids, but only the Great One knows why.
