If I Die Tomorrow
C1 is the teenage child of a prominent family. Having lived their whole life in their happy little white picket fence town, they don't see the flaws of their society. They don't know about the vicious murders that happen daily. They don't know how strict the laws are, don't see the way the government controls everything from the amount of money each family has to the height of the grass in their yards.
Up until that day they didn't see any of it. But that day, their older sibling was killed because they went out of their way to help a family that had fallen out of favor with the government. After their older sibling was sentenced to death without any sort of trial, C1's family is taken under investigation, and C1 begins to notice the flaws in the way they live life. They hold it in, though, trying to keep up the normative, fearing their own life.
However, when a fellow student disappears from school without any prompting, people start asking questions. That leads to more disappearances, which leads to riots.
The government, distraught, declares the whole city to be wiped out, as they can't seem to calm the uprising any other way, and they don't want the whole 'perfect' nation to fall into chaos.
C1, and their family, are among the few picked to be spared. Rather than go quietly, though, C1 announces the plot to a group of people at school. Or, rather, attempts to.
C2, lucky for C1, gets them to shut up before it's too late. C2 then, when they're alone, explains that they're part of a strong underground rebellion. C1 insists on becoming part of said rebellion, refusing to sit quietly any longer. C2 reluctantly agrees, and starts to fold C1 into the only thread of hope the town seems to have. C1 ends up being helpful to the rebellion- Their family's position gives them access to the kind of information the rebellion needs. However, as C1 and C2 start to grow closer, both of their tasks start to become more dangerous, until the point that they are regularly risking their lives for something that might not even work.
However, with the news that the government will be acting soon, C2 decides that there isn't a chance that either of them will make it out alive. They urge C1 to leave with their family, and, of course, C1 refuses, determined that they will somehow survive.
I'd like C1, but I can do either.
