Thread Topic: Personal RP/Soap Policy Thread
-
This is open for anyone that has their own personal preferences in terms of rp/soap styles or partners
Also feel free to post what you have at the moment and add on over time - I know I will~
Roleplay Styles
- Large paragraph(s): If you can't write three or more lines in your response, then I get bored. I like details. They keep the story interesting or helps initiate further actions for the characters.
- Grammar: Capitalization and punctuation are a must. I understand some people mess up or English isn't their first language, just try to make sense. We all miss a word or use the wrong spelling sometimes.
- Third person: I cannot stand people that write in first-person. It makes the roleplay/soap way too personal. But I don't think many people do that anymore.
DOs
- Be creative: Put a little effort into your writing. Even if you think you're not good, we all roleplay for a reason. To improve.
- Let your partner know: If you don't feel like doing a roleplay anymore, just say so. People don't like feeling ignored. Or if you need a break, they usually understand.
- Try something new: It never hurts to go beyond your boundaries every now and then. But if you're not comfortable with something, say so.
DON'Ts
- Godmodding
Just don't do it. No one likes that garbage.
- Mary Lu/Gary Stu
google it if you don't know
Personal Preferences
- MxM (MalexMale)
I can do MxF, never done FxF
- Paragraph form
- I can be dominant or submissive in romance
- I like a variety of genres from horror to adventure to romance/drama -
Ah I forget an important thing:
I'm trying to be more open and inviting to people I have never soaped with before, but if there is a case where I feel my partner isn't as into the idea as I am, or they're just not responding, then I will seek someone else to do the plot with if it's a good one.
I no longer do groups seeing as someone either never comes on or they quit before it even begins. But I may make exceptions for small groups of 3-4. -
Sure, I'll throw in mine.
Styles
-I would prefer paragraph format; complete sentences (or stylistically incomplete) are a must.
-I don't mind first person, though warn me if you're going to be doing so, so that we can both do it. It sounds weird if only one person is doing it. I cannot stand second person. It sounds sloppy and inexperienced (also I had an English teacher who basically beat the idea that second person is bad into my brain).
DO:
-Tell me what you'd like to do, and if you want me to do anything. I try my best to do this whenever reasonable. Since we're writing a story together, we should work together.
-Tell me if you want to stop what we're working on. I won't be offended. I will, however, feel a bit confused and abandoned if you drop without warning and continue to post on the site. I tend to be an obsessive writer (I have a totally rational reason), so I can come off as annoying. Which leads me to...
-Basically, if there's something I should know, tell me. I'm annoying? Great, I need to know if you want me to stop. I won't be offended. And hey, if I am, I won't try to take anything out on you.
DON'T:
-Give me complete cliches. I've said that I thrive on cliche, though when I say that, I mean that I enjoy taking overused concepts and reworking them to feel fresh and new. This goes for characters and for plots.
-Give me characters that are so "original," they're unoriginal. If your character is a winged demon wolf with heterochromia, black anime hair, fangs, and dead parents/a tragic past whose sentences end with ellipsis (...), we've got a problem. At the same time, if your character is too perfect/too flawed, it'll be difficult to work with you. Everyone has good and bad traits, and realistic characters are important.
-Ask to do horror RPs. I just can't. They make me extremely uncomfortable.
-Ask to do smut RPs or even sex scenes in general. I've tried and I can't. If you REALLY feel like our characters need to have written scenes of doing the do, ask for my email/other contact and we can do it (pun not intended) there. This is partially because of the forum rules and also because I don't want to make a fool of myself here.
-Oh, and godplaying of course. Just because you're all-powerful when you write doesn't mean your character has to be as well.
Personal Preferences
-ASK ME TO DO FxF OMG PLEASE
-I'm not great at MxM, mainly because I 1) don't find it all that sexy and 2) just started doing it. Earlier on, not doing it was how I protested and avoided obsessive hetero "allies" who were really only in it for the fetishizing.
-Supernatural/paranormal/magical characters and settings -
STYLES
-Paragraphs
I understand that when action is low, sometimes there isn't much to write. But still, please, please, please try to give me as much as I'm giving you.
-Grammar and Spelling
VERY IMPORTANT. I will drop a soap if you can't do simple things like capitalizing the letter 'I'. I understand, we're human, we all make mistakes, but if every one of your posts are like this:
i went 2 the stoer
Or anything of the sort, don't even try.
-Third Person
I hate first person when roleplaying/soaping. Sorry. Don't do second person.
-Detailed Posts
BASICALLY, NO ONE LINERS.
DO:
-PLOT TWISTS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
If the action is dying, do something surprising. You don't always have to run it by me, but that's nice too. Like, hey, can I do this?
-Time Skips are Okay!
We don't have to go through every minute of everyday, people.
-Bring in other characters
You don't have to make sheets for them, but I've never once read a book with only two characters. They don't have to be there all the time, but it's interesting to have other factors
-Character Sheets
BE DETAILED. And, for pete's sake, PREVIEW PICTURES BEFORE YOU SUBMIT.
DON'T:
-God mod
I will call you out.
-Forget to respond
I expect you to be active, and if you can't be at certain points, tell me. I will understand! I'll do the same for you.
-Try to control my character.
Ever.
-Drastically injure/kill my characters/ect
Without my permission. Please.
-Stay with it if you get bored.
TELL ME. Either we can do something to fix it, or we can drop it. Again, don't leave me hanging.
PERSONAL PREFERENCES:
-MxM, MxF, FxF
I like them all, but I've never really done FxF and am not experienced in it, at all.
-No Horror
Every other genre is freaking GREAT. But no horror, nor excessive gore.
-I love soaping. Ask me.
