Arriving at the park, the door was opened and the girl and her guard stepped out, Pradeep once again wearing her mask and scarf pulled around her neck.
"Let's sit by the pond, okay?" Neon said, taking the Puppy-coo [don't judge me]'s hand and dragging her to the shaded area by the water. A blanket was laid down by two of her attendants, and Neon sat down, pulling Pradeep beside her.
"Make sure no one bothers us, please." Neon said, which was code for keep the area clear so Pradeep could get comfortable.
Two of the three attendants walked off, vanishing out of sight, to keep people away.
Neon helped Pradeep take off the mask, and fluffed down her feathery down on her face, smiling.
"You remind me a lot of Angiel, you know that?" Neon said, sighing. "I wish I could see him more often, you know?..Oh, sorry. I forgot-"
"It's okay." Pradeep said, smiling back at the other. "We'll see them again soon, at the next auction, right?"
"Of course!" Neon said, and began chatting to her friend.
-
"Thank you, come again!" The shopkeep said as they walked outside, meeting up with the other guard.
"Oh! See ya, Seraph!" Angiel called, as his friend walked off. Seraph glanced back to watch as the new guard put a cloak over Angiel's shoulders, pulling the hood up, and held an umbrella over his head.
A rumor had been spread that the Eldest Nostrade was an albino with a rare disorder. The rumor was to protect him, but Angiel hated it, as it made most stay away from him. But it was for his own good.
Seraph began walking down the street, heading toward a small cafe. He pulled the scarf down from his mouth, sitting and waiting. He went here almost every day, just so he could be found, if his mother or Pradeep, or someone else, needed him. -
Not long after their meal, Elijah was once more saying goodbye to his father, the older canine assuring him that he'd be home by the morning at latest. And he was, he always was. But that wasn't Elijah's problem, not even close. All he wanted was to know what went on so late at night that caused his father to be away so often. A second job, but what kind? It paid well for the few times that Jericho went out, so of course his son was curious to know exactly what kind of work it was. But no matter how much he asked, he never got a straight answer.
"I'll see you soon, Eli. Don't stay up too late, and don't unlock the door for anyone." The brunette told him, as he did every time he left, and hugged the small male tight for a moment.
"I know, Dad. Don't crush me like last time." Elijah told him, that look on his face that said he wanted to know the truth, but knew he wouldn't get it.
"I know, I know you do. Stay safe." He embarrassingly kissed the other's forehead, grinning at how his son cringed and complained - saying he was an adult now - then left the small apartment, locking the door behind him.
Jericho felt his pager go off once again and went to check it, only to find that his work wasn't alerting him this time. It was his phone, and that going off at this time meant one thing and one thing alone. There was something new to be discussed. Thus he took a different direction from his original destination, changing course.
Elijah looked out the window, watching his father leave like he had so many times before. He would be gone all night, like always, and the young dog would stay in his room until he fell asleep, like always. But not this time, not tonight. Tonight Elijah would use his trained nose to pursue his old man and figure out exactly what was going on in the night. The boy waited until the dark tail was out of his sight then went to go get ready to tail him. -
Maemi hummed as they sent their last customer out the door with a happy smile. They were pleased with how well they were doing. Glancing back at Lexen, the fashion lover smiled a bit, looking down at the list. Five more people were left, and three of them were hybrids wanting only a trim. They decided that they would take the two who wanted more complex styles. Before they could get started, their phone set off in their back pocket. Maemi puckered their lips unhappily as they realized what tone it was. While beckoning the young deer woman over, they looked over at Lexen again and said, "We're running low on time. I'd say we can push through, only if you can take those wanting a trim."
"No problem, Maemi!" Lexen chirped with enthusiasm as he finished up his own customer. It only took the sheep's encouraging words to make the cat hybrid happy to do the job. He often day dreamed about killing fish while cutting hair, and the customer he had now shared his thoughts. People like these always made Lexen have a better time working than usual, it seemed, and he was also excited to leave the building and go to the "hideout" as he called it. Lexen liked seeing the other hybrids and hearing about all of the action they were preparing for. "I'll jump on it."
By the time Lexen had finished with the three customers that wanted trims, Maemi had assisted the two hybrids who wanted new styles- an easy task, of course, though the sheep hybrid was worried that they should have answered the call rather than assume it was the usual deal. If they were right, however, they had plenty of time to drive halfway there and then walk to the entrance of the warehouse. Almost 20 minutes, in fact, and they weren't too far from it. Lexen purred in delight as he got to turn on the shiny "Closed" sign and get the jingly keys to lock the building up. -
Micah turned his attention onto paper work- Yes, even the rebellion came with paper work. Reports of progress and failure, date to be collected, all sent to the woman in charge. The woman, or, Lady, as they called her, was some form of extreme higher class member, but no one knew her exact possession, nor had anyone ever seen her face. The only time Micah himself had seen her, she had been wearing a mask.
Before Micah had been appointed, new recruits would meet with the second-in-command, but now, that man had more important things to do. As time for the big strike drew closer, Lady withdrew even more, handing more control over to the two men who worked under her. Micah, or course, was their game piece, and handsome and brave face for the public to see. He often felt like a puppet, but he knew that having other people pull the strings was wise for the time being.
As he called in three young men- Brothers, he could tell. Triplets, possibly, or only a year apart- to interview them and clear them to be used by the rebellion, he tried to focus on the task at hand.
Brass, of course, did the practical thing first. Called or paged those that could be called, gave the man on guard duty names, telling him that those three people needed to wait there for Micah if they came. And, then, he headed to a small cafe after asking where he might find Seraph.
Emma had been listening, of course. She knew that she didn't have to actually wash the scarf, but rather just wet and dry it, as water would make the ink disappear. She grinned at her cleverness, dunking only the splattered parts in the swirling clear liquid. -
[Sorry if my posts are even shorter today, kind of depressed.]
"Can I help you, sir?" The waitress asked, glancing over at the dark clad man. Seraph shook his head, glancing out the window.
"No, thank you." He replied quietly. To be honest, he was hoping somehow Neon and Pradeep would show up. He had picked this cafe because Neon loved their sweets, but had yet to cross paths with anyone besides her attendants, and one of her bodyguards.
He sighed, crossing his legs and waiting. -
Jericho, after having a brief conversation via cellphone, made his way casually towards the warehouse where they usually met, only difference being that they would be waiting outside near the secret entrance instead of just heading down the ladder. It was different at least, and a good way to make sure everyone was attending this likely important meeting.
He glanced around as he approached the warehouse, stealthfully making his way inside. The old dog let out another sigh, feeling exasperated by the world they lived in, and he wanted nothing more than for it to end. And more so, he didn't want Elijah to be scared all the time. Even though his pup tried to act tough, he was afraid.
Elijah, ignoring his heart pounding in his chest, followed his father's familiar scent as best he could. He didn't like to admit it, not in the slightest, but being out when the sun was soon to be set was something he didn't enjoy anymore. When night fell, everything bad happened, and he didn't want to end up a part of it. But his curiosity overpowered his fear, and the pup pressed on, trying to make sure he wasn't caught by his father for following him. -
Maemi hummed as they walked to the parking lot with Lexen in tow. Yes, it was true they usually put their money towards the rebellion, but the sheep hybrid had a few luxuries, one of them being their car. It wasn't the most expensive car around, but Maemi had it painted white with pink highlights- they always claimed it made their day 'bright'. Climbing into the driver's seat, they looked over at Lexen, who was climbing into the back.
"Remember, Lexen, these people are our comrades. You are to treat them with respect and to do as our commanders ask. You haven't been doing that so well, so I figured I'd say it again," the sheep hybrid teased the cat as they closed their door, buckled up, and started the car. "Do you understand me?"
"Yeah yeah," Lexen mumbled as he snuggled into the soft, cushiony seat. "I've got it."
Maemi drove to the halfway point in silence. They knew that Lexen wouldn't appreciate a conversation unless it was about cat-like things, and though the sheep hybrid adored the cat hybrid, they weren't sure a talk about yarn would interest them much. After finding an open parking space and getting out, Maemi and Lexen set off to the warehouse, luckily not catching people's attention this time around.
