Eve pursed her lips, thinking. She quickly held out her hand, a green flame forming above her palm.
The wolves didn't like that one bit. The leader of the group growled, preparing to attack the two.
Eve's eyes widened, and she threw the flame to the side, hitting another wolf before grabbing Cyrus's hand and running the other way.
"This way. We have to run!" She whispered, voice still stuck. -
Cyrus nodded, eyes wide, and complied. He'd have had plenty of time to get to know this forest from all the years he'd spent fleeing from the vicious dogs in it if not for the way it constantly changed. It was like maneuvering through a complicated maze at full-throttle. It was taking everything he had not to run straight into a tree.
-
Eve heard the Wolves behind them, but tried to ignore it, concentrating on the path ahead. She knew the way, but she was so nervous she took a couple wrong turns.
And that was enough to land them out of the forest, at the edge of a gorge, a cliff falling down into a river hundreds of miles down before them.
Eve cursed. -
A cliff which the less observant Cyrus happily plunged over like the graceful swan he is.
He awoke with a loud gasp, eyes wide and his chest heaving with his terrified breathing. He sat back against his pillow, sweat wet on his forehead. After all these years, no matter how the dream ended up killing him, he could never wake up in peace. -
Eve screamed as she saw Cyrus plunge over the edge, tears filling her eyes.
The wolves watched her from the forest.
Eve stared over the edge, then took a few steps back before leaping off after him.
As she fell, she began to feel lightheaded...then she blacked out.
-
Eve's eyes snapped open, and she gasped in relief to realize she wasn't dead.
She then proceeded to look around, and noticed she was clinging to someone...
..And that someone was Cyrus.
She screeched, started, and fell of the side of the bed. -
Cyrus jolted, screaming in response to a loud shrieking that he was fairly sure had just deafened him in his left ear. He jumped up, ducking off to the other side of the bed and staring at the source of the shriek with wide eyes.
"Y-you..?" he stuttered through his panting. His eyes widened further at the realization that it was definitely the girl from his dreams. -
"W-where am I? How-?" Eve stuttered, utterly terrified.
She sat there on the floor, eyes flickering around the room, trying to take everything in. -
Cyrus watched her, utterly silent. His query had been spoken. Now all that was left was to wait and see if he was hallucinating.
-
Eve took a deep breath, standing slowly. It took her a minute to keep her balance.
"Cyrus...? Where am I?" She asked, looking at him pleadingly. She needed an answer, or she felt she might cry. -
Cyrus took a sharp breath in, blinking. That was his name. She was saying it.
"Um.. You're in my room.." he answered slowly, glancing around to make sure that was true. How could this girl from his dreams be here? Had he met her before in the real world and subconsciously dreamed her up? That would explain how she could be real, but how she had come to be in his room would still be very much a mystery. He stood up shakily on the side of the bed opposite to her. -
"Your...room? As in....the waking world?" Eve was shocked.
She had never heard of anyone from the dreams leaving...so how was she here? -
Cyrus nodded tersely, taking a step toward her.
"And you're here. How did you get in here?" -
"I'm...not sure. I remember..You fell, and...I jumped after you...but I've done things like that before, and this never happened." She frowned, utterly confused.
-
Cyrus snorted, utterly disgusted at her act, as if she'd actually been in his dream. That was impossible. That response came before he reasoned out that there was no way for her to know what had happened in his dreams if she hadn't been there.
"Wait." he blinked, then began to shake. He glanced around again, panicked, as if everything might break and reveal that he was still in his dream. "Wait, how can you be.. How do you not know? I don't know. One of us has to know how you.."
He turned back to her, helpless, and shook his head. -
"Well I don't." Eve muttered, then sighed. "I guess wondering won't help much, though."
