"All good, I hope?" he asked.
Ben walked back in, carrying a glass for Ali. "Here you go," he smiled. -
"Thanks." She smiled and took a sip. "Always good sir. And I can see why." She chuckled softly.

"Ben, I'm sold," the elder Sychell said. "I think you picked well."
He smiled embarrassedly, "thanks, Dad, but she picked me too." -
She scooted closer to Ben so their shoulders touched. "It's always nice to meet the family." She beamed happily.

Ben grinned, and his hand found hers, where he interlocked their fingers.
"Always nice to meet the girl my son is dating too," David said, "so how did you two meet?" -
She smiled lightly "School. Bio actually. We had to be partners so I started to tease him." Chuckles and squeezes his hand.

"She's better with a knife than I am," Ben grinned.
"I thought you were going to be a surgeon? Your girlfriend is going to destroy that and take your job," David smiled. -
A sly smile played on her lips. "My parents were both doctors so I had to learn a few things." She secretly smelled the air for any danger and found none.

Ben smiled, and David asked, "has Ben met them yet?"

Her back tenced up bu she quickly relaxed. "No. You see, when I was sixteen I lost my mother to a horrible fire that took a lot of things away." Now that was completly true. Her eyes darkens some, "My father became a drunk so when I hit 18 I just left. Now I moved her to finish my senior year and go to college."

Ben looked over at her, he hadn't known this either. He squeezed her hand reassuringly.
David Sychell was at a loss, "I'm sorry."
Ben, seizing an opportunity, "where do you want to go to college, babe?" -
She shrugged a shoulder slightly. "I want to go to a school in Californa or North Caroline. A nice change from here." She smiled lightly.

"What about Florida?" Ben asked, "nice whether too."

She smiled "Florida is lovely just a lot of people are attracted there during torist season. " she chuckle quietly. "I'm more a back wood girl then a city one." Shrugs innocently.

He shrugged, "I want to go to the University of Florida."
The house phone rang, and David rose to head to the kitchen to get it.
