Toni's grin, which had gone away when he first asked a question, started to creep up again. "Yah, that's sure an upside. To be honest, though, I am jealous of you. You're so happy in your work. Even though I don't hate it, I never enjoy it quite how you seem to." Toni was focusing on the road again, his hands placed at the bottom of the steering wheel. For once in his life, he thought, he had actually admitted out loud that someone else had been doing things better than him. With the listening thing, that was different because he could make up for bad hearing with other things. But Lance's better attitude couldn't be beat.
(I almost cried reading it ;~;) -
"I guess that's just a gift from being a little on the flip side. I don't really have to enjoy it. I guess I just do. Mainly holding the blades." Lance chuckled, flicking his wrist, a dagger that had been hidden up his sleeve slipping out into his hands. He closed his eyes and held the dagger. "I'm a bit jealous at how focused and serious you can be, though. I'm always a bit upbeat. Being serious in an assassin's work is the key part. I'm a bit bouncy in that category, but you're basically head first into it. I admire that in your work." He laughed, feeling the blade in his hand and falling silent.
(Don't cry. Lance will cry.) -
"Hm but I want to enjoy it. So it's not work anymore. But.. Thank you. For admiring me, I suppose." Toni kept his eyes on the road, but every once in a while they flicked to the other. The country road was gradually morphing into a more civilized-looking street, but it was still only one two lanes with no markers between.
(.~. Mustn't cry, for Lance.) -
All that Lance was doing was tossing and catching his blade, eyes almost in a trance. He was busy thinking. Toni... Toni... Antonio.. His brain was practically screaming at him of the presence of the other boy. Lance was surprised at this, but no emotion showed. He had never had many feelings for others. Of any gender, to be specific. But something in Antonio's eyes, his smile, it made him feel ten times more cheerful.
-
Toni kept looking over at Lance. His rhythmic tossing of the knife was quite occupying, but it wasn't just that. It was Lance himself, he was captivating. Almost drew the eyes in, and Toni couldn't help but take his gaze away from the road for seconds at a time. Of course he kept the car steady and safe, not wanting to mess up the work of art vehicle. Now around the road buildings became slightly more often, and the road now had the customary yellow lines down the middle. Despite that, though, there were still no other passing cars.
-
Lance snapped out of it and caught Toni looking at him from the corner of his eye. He smiled brightly and leaned close to him, putting his own hand of the wheel. "There's an automatic switch this somewhere over here, and the car will drive on its own if you tell it where to go." He took one of Toni's hand and put it on the door- there was indeed a little switch there. "Flip it and the car shall do the work. Mostly. It's not that great. I've been working on it. You just need to glance at the road every five minutes." Lance took his hand off of Toni's hand and the wheel, leaning back into his chair and picking up his knife. He began to toss it again.
-
Toni's face was lightly tinted pink, but he was turned away as he flipped the switch and questionably said to the car, "Take us to 8831 Juneberry Road." Then he released the wheel, and once he was sure it was moving on it's own, he sat back. Slightly embarrassed that he had been caught staring he tried to keep his eyes elsewhere- the road, his shoes, the dashboard, anything but Lance.
-
After a few minutes of messing with his knife, Lance started to feel a bit tired. Suddenly it dawned on him that he hadn't quite slept last night. He set the knife down. He was going to sleep a little. Five minutes later, a very asleep Lance was laying against his seat. He was quite for a few minutes. Then he started snoring. It was a snore that sounded like a purr of a cat.
-
Toni, surprised at first at the sudden noise, realized it came came from the sleep Lance. With Lance asleep, Toni's eyes drifted again. The boy next to him sounded relatively content, so he didn't disturb him. An of course now, Toni thought, he could get away with staring without getting caught. Lance's snore was almost music to Toni's ears, it was like a content purr rather than an annoying gurgle.
-
Lance was in his dream world. By that point, he probably wasn't going to wake up just yet. It was the usual dream that always woke him up. Flashbacks of kills. Ending with his parents. He continued his purr snoring, twitching every so often. His hair began to spike up due to the electricity and rubbing against the seat. Lance's breathing was starting to slow.
-
A sudden change of terrain under the car brought Toni back to reality, and he noticed they were back in another town. He knew the place wasn't far, now, and his stomach growled in anticipation. Toni looked back to Lance, and he smirked at the seemingly so innocent boy. Really, he looked like an average 20-year-old but as Toni knew he was anything but.
-
Suddenly, Lance let out a quick gasp. His right hand flew to his left arm and he dug his nails in deep. Blood trickled down his arm. His eyes flashed open and he sat up, pulling his nails up and out of his poor arm. Bye this point he had a nice little pool of blood on his pants. Lance's face paled as he realized he had just attacked himself in his sleep in front of someone. He looked over at Toni, pressing a hand on his wound.
-
Toni, shocked, was already watching Lance. "Lance? Are... You okay?" His eyes, though he would be cross to admit he really felt it, shone with worry for the other. He ignored the car coming to a stop in a parking lot, and kept his focus on Lance. "Is something wrong?"
-
"Nightmare. Nothing, really. I do this all of the time. I think I'm fine." Lance kicked something, a drawer opening with First Aid stuff. "Can you reach over a-and grab a band aid or something?" He tried to keep his eyes off of Toni. He hissed at the searing pain that was moving up his arm.
-
"Yah.." Toni leaned over, getting the proper things needed out. Sitting up he then took Lance's arm carefully, and used an antibac-whatever ((Wish my spell correct would tell me..)) wipe to clean the blood off.
