The ignorance is choking up this thread.
Christians are trying to claim that the universe had to have a start but that God didn't.
Atheists are trying to claim that the universe had a start, but they're trying to use Christian ideas and explain the universe off of those.
Scientists estimate the general time of the big bang, but thinking that there was nothing before it is ignorant. Our universe isn't the only one. And known space is constantly expanding. We are actually finding the gravity fields of other universes on the edges of our own. I.E. There was more that one big bang. We also don't know what happened before the big bang. So while the Christians will continue to claim that God did all of that when they didn't even know about it 'til just now, responsible Atheists would take this new information into account and stop trying to explain the big bang until they take into account this new information. -
Debates give answers. They help people understand each other and help information that either side has get traded to benefit both sides of the dispute. We aren't calling each other names and we aren't being too insulting. I'm using logic and reason to back my claims up and help people understand things. I will continue to do so whenever I see ignorance present. And sadly, religion has ignorance bountifully.

the milky way galaxy is 100,000 light years wide and we can see the center of it. Not to mention the OTHER galaxies we can see in our night sky. Look up the Hubble deep field. I think you'd be more than confident that we can see more than 15 light years.
Also, visible light isnt the only method we can use to see things. A secondary universe would have massive amounts of gravity. We can use the same technology we use to spot black holes to see the massive amounts of gravity they put off.
