I just wonder why everyone chains themselves down to some deity, and don't desipher their own right and wrong.:/
I don't know, it's been making me depressed lately watching my church talk nonstop about the sin of homosexuality.*sigh* -
You make your own path, that's what I think. You don't know what will happen in the future. You only know past and present.
Children who grow up with a religion have a choice to leave it. My mom did. But others remain chained, as you said.
This is why I like my school. We have the Gay-Straight Alliance. ^-^ They make sure no one goes after you for your sexual orientation. -
tongue AdvancedAt this point, yeah, religion is bondage. It was useful at one point in time, but now, who needs it? We've lived with religion in our civilization for so long that the morals taught by those religions are inherent to each of us. People don't need a book to know right from wrong. So yeah, the only function religion serves in western civilization is to block social progress and further bigotry.

Religion is sort of like a chain. It works for some people and doesn't for others; everyone has their decision whether to break free or not.
Religion isn't made to stop people from having fun, although it can feel like that at times, the chains are on for the benefits. It keeps people back from the world, was the description of one.
Religious people often agree with the saying "You're 'in' the world but not 'of' the world." -
It has to do with the person, basically. Some people interpret things differently.
