I Am Random NewbieNothing good, huh? Well, alot of Christians I know beg to differ. When they pray to God, they have faith something good will come from it. They take comfort in knowing that someone above them will take care of them. That comfort and faith gives them the strength to push on in life, and succeed. Even if I believe it was just them and they didn't need to pray, I'm happy that they can find comfort and relief.
So comfort, relief, and succeeding in life is not good? I'm aware of all the dreadful things that happened in the past. But religion didn't do it. People did it. Humans who were religious, yes, but people none the less. We've changed since then. There are still people who are over the top religious, but most religious people are willing to accept and respect other's religions. -
I merely tolerate religion rather than respect it.
Tolerence is more important than respect in this subject matter
why would you respect something you despise? Tolerating it means you won't bother it, its like respecting without feeling the respect xD
I tolerate Christianity, but I don't respect it. I respect very FEW of their beliefs. -
Makes sense

You're entire first paragraph is saying that people take comfort in expecting their imaginary friend in the sky to make all the bad go away and to take care of them for all eternity.
And your second paragraph is a combination of misunderstanding what you're debating against and taking a very one sided opinion. We have nothing against comfort, relief, and success in life. But religion provides comfort in ignorance, a placebo of a relief, and isnt related to success in life at all. Secondly, if religions were truely as open as you are saying they are, why would this be such a delicate subject in the first place? Why would we be in war? Why would you be posting this thread at all?
And on the part of it's just people, you're mostly right. It's people who are commiting the crimes but they are doing so free of prosecution or moral restraint because their religion says it's okay. -
I think that the athiest person shouldn't have been yelling at the Christian for having a religion. If he/she didn't want to be religious that doesn't mean that others can't be. I know lots of athiests, and to me it sounds like that one needs a clue.
