One of my favorites is the Bible story Death in the Pot.
Basically, they found some poisonous squash and put it in their soup. Then they started running around, screaming, "DEATH IN THE POT! THERE'S DEATH IN THE POT!" -

They really are. I did Mythology for one of my electives last year.

Relating to Mythology I'm a huge fan of Scottish Kelpie lore, which are water horses that trick children into going on their backs for a ride and when they do their body's become stuck to the horse and it drowns them and eats them. In some versions they are good and end up falling in love with women but I like the children eating ones more.
Also, the story of Narcissus, where a man cursed with beauty and vanity used it to trick women into sleeping with him, and tried tricking an nymph and when she realized he didn't love her she tricked him into looking at his reflection in the water and he turned into a daffodil as a result. That's where we get the modern word for Daffodil, Narcissus is the scientific name for the genus.
As far as Biblical stories go, as a kid I was macabrely interested in King Solomon, in particular the story of the woman who killed her baby by smothering it on accident so she tried to claim her neighbors baby as her own. Solomon suggested they cut the baby in half so both women could have it, and the fake mother was satisfied with this, but the real mother cried and that's how he decided which mother was the real one. -
There’s a really wonderful book called “Italian Folktales”
It’s super grim, and a bit like the last story on the post above. There’s roughly around 800 pages, and it’s so interesting and we’ll written. I think y’all would like it -

Huh, Italian folktales sounds really interesting.
Do you know if it's on like Project Gutenberg or something? I'd like to read that one.
