the only answer i can find is humanity, but the snake/serpent/devil existed before the "original sin"?
-
I would like to answer but before I do, I’ll ask if you want to hear what my specific religion has to say. It’s pretty much Christian but with more revelation added onto it
-
You're mormon/LDS, right? I'm interested in hearing it but i was raised baptist (I'm not anymore).
But ye im okay because im pretty sure y'alls beliefs about the beginning are the same as the other branches -
Mhm
Ok, gimme a sec
So I’m actually not the most sure- I’m not sure if I’ve exactly been taught about where Satan’s evil came from. This is what I know.
We were all spirits before we came to earth, and Heavenly Father(God) said that he had a plan of salvation so that we could all go through our lives on earth and come back and be gods/goddesses along with him if we followed faithfully. And he needed a volunteer to be the savior for the plan. Satan, or Lucifer, at the time, stepped forward and offered to be the savior. He said that he would make everyone follow the lord, and that he wanted all the glory for the plan. But that wasn’t how God wanted it so he said no and Jesus ended up being the savior. So I think evil may have come from Satan when he got angry because of that? Yeah sorry, I don’t think any of this helped -
Sadly that doesn't answer my question:/
-
Satan didn’t make evil..
Evil was always there, along with good. God created us to have the freedom to choose whichever path we’d like, and most chose to follow and be good.
However, there are some who chose evil. Hence, Satan. It was just the choice he chose because God gave him that free will. And it all boils down to free will and choice, and how God didn’t wanted to strip that away from us. So the option of evil was there, but he of course would want people to do good.
He didn’t create evil. More like his lack of presence fell into that. And humans aren’t perfect so they fall for temptation and other sins.
I feel like this would help explain it better because I’m not all that religious and good at explaining.

yeah, wait, sorry- OH OH OH ok i found it i think. it sort of aswers your question but this is the best i can get. yeah it doesn't really answer it but right now, no one on earth actually has a correct answer to your question
so in our belief, God wasn't the beginning to everything ever. he created his son who created our universe, but there were many more people before god himself. no one has more revelation that goes to times before him, but we know that evil was a thing before god was even born. we believe that once we become gods and goddesses if we're righteous in the afterlife, then we'll have more knowledge and we might then have the answer to that. I'm sorry!! -
LATE POST REEEEEEEE))
yeah rvelez's answer works as well -
Thank you for taking the time to reply, but I'm honestly just more confused now. 😕
-
oh RIP SORRY

I agree that God didn't create evil, and I think the link rvelez shared made a good point when it says that darkness isn't necessarily "created" more like it exists because it is the absence/opposite of light, and in the same way evil is the absence/opposite of good.
And also like rvelez said, when God created people and the angels with the freedom to choose, whether to love and obey him or to go their own way and defy him, it allowed people/angels to choose not to do good which is the same as choosing to do evil.
As far as Satan/the devil existing before the "original sin" I'm guessing you mean when Adam and Eve disobeyed and ate the fruit in which case that is true. He did exist before that and likely made his choice to rebel against God some time between the first and third chapter of Genesis. (Since in Genesis 1 everything was created and declared good, and in Genesis 3 Satan was disguised as a serpent and tempted Eve.)
This article "The Origin and Fall of the Devil" explains it pretty well:
but to summarize:
The devil was a powerful and beautiful angel but instead of choosing to worship God he wanted to be worshiped. His sin wasn't that he wanted to be the savior but that he became proud and wanted to be greater than God. So I guess you could say Satan was the first to sin/to choose evil, but he didn't create it, and neither did God.
@Cinnamon_Roll I'm a little confused too. What makes you think that evil and people existed before God, and that people can become gods or goddesses in the after life? [just want to understand where you are coming from :) ] -
thank you! i think between you are rvelez's reply, i understand now. good to know.
also dulcinea, cinnamon is mormon -
For the party where people existed before God, sorry I’m not exactly sore if I was clear enough? Sorry I’m not the best explainer. What I’ve been taught growing up is that beings were alive before god- we’re not exactly sure how many though. I mean, we’re taught the story that God had his son Christ that became our savior and died for our sins so that we could be saved in the afterlife. But I believe that’s the Christian teaching- for LDS/Mormons it’s a bit different.
So, we believe that Christ created this universe, and that he placed us on here in human bodies. This entire life is a test- if, in the end, we’ve tried our best and we’ve strived to live every commandment he has given us, then we will be resurrected as he was at the second coming and we will live with him in heaven. But the only thing is- no unclean/imperfect thing can be in Heaven or be in his presence. And we are imperfect. So once we’ve reached our goal and proved our faith, he must do something to make it so we can live in his presence. So depending on our choices, we’ll become gods and goddesses along with him. I’m gonna be honest with you, it’s very difficult to explain- I bet there’s an lds website that explain it better then I can. But yeah, we do become gods and goddesses and we’ll have the ability to create worlds like god and Christ did. So you see, we believe that that same thing happened to God and heavenly mother- they were once humans out something related to that. Sorry if this confuses you more~ -
That's very interesting, I'm not very familiar with what Mormons believe and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it for me. Thanks :)

no problem :)
