hello. are there any followers of pentecostalism on the site? i’m not particularly religious, but my father’s family are pentecostals. i’d like to learn more about it.

So, it honestly depends because many people treat Pentacostalism differently. It all depends on the area you live in and things like that. For me personally, the Pentecostal church I went to I had to wear skirts that always came below the knees, and I had to wear tops that were modest. Most Pentecostal churches believe that a woman shouldn't cut her hair, and are very much old school in their belief systems. [Men out working and women tending to the house.]
As far is biblical scripture is taught, they are not afraid to teach about hell, and how you get there. They also believe in speaking in tounges (the Holy Spirit speaking through you); and baptismal in Jesus name.
I personally am not part of the church anymore, but I can most definitely answer more of you questions and give some biblical history as well! -
yes, i’m aware of all of that information, haha.
maybe the biblical history? i don’t really understand it all because even though i attended a pentecostal church’s quite a few times, i stopped going by the time i was six. -
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this!
So the Pentecostal movement, or religion is supported in Acts Chapter 2. The apostles were in the upper room on the days of Pentacost (just another name for the days when the Holy Spirit fell upon these people), and were filled with the Holy Spirit after Jesus had ascended to heaven.
In the early 20th century Pentacostalism at an upsurge, because they thought they were in the times of the second coming of Christ. Two of the main people associated with this movement are Charles Parham (an American evangelist and faith healer), and more proponently known William J. Seymour (a Weslyan-Holiness preacher).
William J. Seymour was the one who started the Azusa Street revival in Los Angeles, California. (If you want a read, and are interested in theology, I would read up on it! It's really interesting!) Most modern sections of Pentacostalism can actually be pin-pointed to this specific event!
As far as Pentacostalism goes itself, it is definitely a melting pot in regards biblically. There are just so many points to cover, and I'm not really where to start. If you do have more questions about the intricacies of it, I would be more than happy to help. Especially if you want an in depth inside look as well. I have so many experiences 😅
