Thread Topic: Religion, and Why People Believe

This thread has one purpose. To be educational, and informative. What is expressed in this thread is facts that will be gathered from reputable sources. Links will be included. This first post will contain my opinion, and why I think the way I think. Then, I will dive into the different religions, why they are created and why people decide to follow them.
My Opinion on Religion
I personally believe that there is a form of higher power. Do I believe that there is a God/god? Who knows?
I believe certain religions were made to give hope to people, while others wanted to take control and seed fear. I also personally believed that religion is used as a coping mechanism by many. They use their God, gods, goddesses to fall back on. A form of protection, so that they might feel safe.
Others might have been brought into a religion, and stayed in it, just because of family. Or because they don't know any other path. -

God is transcendent and can't be known directly. God is known through the lives and teachings of his great prophets, the most recent of whom was Bahá'u'lláh.
All human beings have a soul that lives for ever. All human beings are members of a single race, which should soon be united in a single global community. All human beings are different, but equal; there should be no inequality between races or sexes. All religions have the same spiritual foundation, despite their apparent differences.
Bahá'í religion may be unique in the way that it accepts all other faiths as true and valid. Bahá'ís accept the divine nature of the missions of Abraham, Moses, Zoroaster, the Buddha, Jesus and the Prophet Muhammad. They believe each one was a further stage in the revelation of God. Other prophets and Manifestations are also accepted.
