SAINTMOTEL NewbieHowever, scientific evidence shows that the earth is over 4.5 BILLION years old.
Why is this?
Also, why are there no dinosaurs in the bible? Supposedly they existed long before mankind, but Adam and Eve were there at the beginning. How is this possible? -
one idea i'v heard is that God created the world with age. think of it this way: when someone makes a video game the game isn't actually very old but it has thousands of years worth of lore. if you think about it that makes sense because the God probably made the world for his own entertainment, what other reasons make sense?
-
SAINTMOTEL NewbieThat would account for the age of the planet, but not for the dinosaurs.
-
the dinos were just part of the lore.

SAINTMOTEL NewbieThank you for your answer, it's certainly an interesting take. However, the steps God took in creating the universe are all laid out in the first book of the bible. It mentions him creating the birds and the fish, but not dinosaurs.
From the research I've done, the most conclusive answer I can find is that the "seven days" are more of a metaphor to make it easier for mankind to understand. However, that STILL doesn't explain dinosaurs and the catastrophe that wiped them out. -
God made more than just birds and fish. You think tigers, or llamas were mentioned? There was a day he made beasts and man. Some passages in the Bible talk about leviathans and behemoths, which could point to dinosaurs. Either dinosaurs were wiped out by the Flood talked about in Genesis, or they just died out. Probably both.
Earth is about 6000-7000 years old. No, there is no scientific evidence. The big bang and evolution are all just theories. God's creation is a theory, too. None are proved per say. But seriously, if evolution and the big bang and that secular worldview was all proved, do you seriously think Christians, millions of people, would continue on believing in God? If what he said about creation was false, then wouldn't the rest of the Bible be false? I'm pretty sure one of the biggest things scientist have been trying to do is prove the Bible wrong xD and vice versa ofc. -
There is actually scientific evidence proving that the earth is much older than a few thousand year, and proving that the Big Bang did in fact happen
This article mostly talks about the Big Bang, but it's relatively easy to read and any other information can be found easily with a google search or two:
-
that's why i think the "earth was created with age idea makes sense."
-
Big bang theory has too many holes
-
Okey dokey
Big Bang aside, there is still other evidence to prove that the Earth is much older than 7,000 years old such as looking at rocks and being able to accurately date their age thanks to carbon dating (which can really only accurately date back to about 50,000 years ago, and that's enough to prove that the earth is much older than 7,000 years)
In terms of this part right here: "But seriously, if evolution and the big bang and that secular worldview was all proved, do you seriously think Christians, millions of people, would continue on believing in God?" Yes, I do. People are stubborn and they'll deny anything that doesn't coincide with their beliefs. So yeah, I'm sure a bunch of them (not all) will still continue to believe in God. In reference to the original post about why dinosaurs aren't mentioned in the Bible: once it was brought up and people started questioning why they weren't in there and how they could have possibly walked the earth before man when god never mentioned them, Christians then came up with "well, there were leviathans" and whatnot (I've also heard people say that god put the dinosaur bones in the ground to test everyone's faith). So, yeah, I firmly believe that if the Big Bang Theory is proven to be right, Christians will come up with some excuse, or just flat out deny it by saying that god is testing their faith.
As for why there are no dinosaurs in the Bible: I personally think that they aren't there because the people who wrote about the Bible/god were not aware of dinosaurs because none of their bones had been dug up. So they just didn't know that dinosaurs existed. Idk, I could be wrong though because I have no idea when the first dinosaur bones were discovered. -
dino bones were found a long time ago. the myths of dragons were based on dino bones

Carbon dating isnt reliable beyond a certain point

Let me just copy and paste what I had previously posted because maybe you didn't read the first paragraph, or just chose to ignore what I said in the parenthesis:
Big Bang aside, there is still other evidence to prove that the Earth is much older than 7,000 years old such as looking at rocks and being able to accurately date their age thanks to carbon dating (which can really only accurately date back to about 50,000 years ago, and that's enough to prove that the earth is much older than 7,000 years)
In other words: That certain point that carbon dating stops being reliable is 50,000 years -
Did you even read the entire link I just posted? Literally gives an example of how radiometric dating is unreliable.
