Why is God male? The only reason there is gender is for reproduction, so why does God have a gender if he doesn't need to reproduce? It makes no sense.
-
I don't know. Maybe they thought males were better than females? Or God decided to be male? Or it was weird for God to be genderless? I have no idea.
-
Oh. God technically doesn't have a gender. We just associate him best with being a father to us, so the closest representation we have is calling him male, referring to him as he.
-
If God is our father... Who is the mother?
-
Lol God is a father figure. You're not physically born from God, girl.
-
But why isn't he a mother figure? If he created life then doesn't it make more sense for him to be the mother, not the father?
-
why does it matter?
-
also there is a mother figure
its mary -
A father figure mostly because a father's job is to provide for his family and care for them and support them. A father loves his family and will lay down his life for them. A father will devote his life to providing for his family's needs while also bearing the responsibility of supporting us in every way. Well, obviously fathers that we know aren't always living up to this, but this is the role a father should have. This is what our relationship with God should be like. He should be our father, and he wants to be. And we his family, his children.
-
A mother can do all those things too, and I'm sure many do.
-
It's a father's job though. Remember the bible was written in a completely different culture. It was the father who took care of the family, not the mother. It's taking that typical representation back then and applying it to our own relationship with God. God is the one taking care of us and we are his children. Simple

God never had a gender still to this day doesn't.
Actually, some people do refer to God as the female
gender. Just to give an example Ivan L Moody (the lead singer of five finger death punch) refers to God as the female gender, It's just the traditional view was
like Star said men being the ones that did almost everything for the family. It's just what has been past down as reference. -
DarknessNight NewbieGod is know as 'The Father'. He is also know as male because he robed himself in flesh as a man named Jesus and walked the earth for 33 years (I think that is the correct time slot). I know a lot of people will probably disagree with that.
To me, God might be a male. I don't know that for certain, and neither does anyone else, but that is what I think
