In the "Other Ten Commandments" Carrie said that
you had once been Christian. What happened? Why did you leave? -
Christianity is build around the concept that you shouldn't ask questions. You're supposed to take things on blind faith and not seek answers for God's "mysteries".
When I asked the church for answers they told me that God did it and God works in mysterious ways.
So I looked for answers elsewhere. -
I grew up in a Christian home. I guess its a faith thing. I have questions but I try not to let them bother me. Because I know they are not true and I believe that God Is real and I love Him. This probably isn't helping.
-
Not at all. It's just making you sound willingly ignorant.
-
do I?
-
"I have questions but I try not to let them bother me."
Why don't you let them bother you? What are you afraid of? -
This is why I have a problem with Christianity.
"Because that's how God works."
"Because God made it that way."
"Because.......God."
And at the same time I am a Christian ._. -
"Because if I'm not, I'm going to hell"
Correct? -
I used to cling to Christianity, being afraid of hell, when I realized that if (we're assuming God is real for the purpose of this) God were going to throw me into hell for not being Christian, simply SAYING it wasn't gonna cut it.

IHLAOY NewbieYou know, I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable Christian and as such I'm sure to lose this argument, and by saying this I understand that I'm putting myself out on a limb for criticism, but I'd consider your view of religion in general to be very narrow sighted and, for lack of a better word, clichd.
Christianity isn't built around the concept of not asking questions, that's a ridiculous notion to take when a good 51% of scientists admit to believing in a higher power. (http:(slash slash)people-press.org/files/legacy-pdf/528.pdf Page 36) At no point in any religious scripture does it recommend avoiding seeking answers, instead it supports it in such passages as ' "ask, and you will receive, seek, and you will find, knock and the door will be
opened to you., for whoever asks receives ' (Matt 7 7-8) So the idea that religion stifles scientific progress is crazy. Only in practice is the idea perpetuated, because man is frankly a stupid race.
And moving on to the questions of religion itself, the idea that there isn't answers to that is crazy too. I guarantee that near anything you're unsure on has an answer, whether in the bible or religious leaders or simply even image-board discussions.
Understand I'm not trying to criticise you for your beliefs, since people here seem to be rather thin skinned, but rather am trying to stimulate a discussion where either we both go away happy or I rage quit and secretly harbour a grudge against you.
(Oh my god, this website can't even support the e in clichd! And of course I can't link my sources, because why would I need to do that?) -
To fear hell is to fear something you don't know exists. No one can know what exists after our death, so any answer is just an invention of man.
-
Well some people believe people went and came back, experiencing it. Like Muhammad for Muslims, Jesus coming from Heaven for Christians.
Which is really f---ed up in both cases. -
I don't care what people believe. Let's not confuse belief with truth. I don't believe what I do "just because", I believe them because I find they make the most sense.
-
IHLAOY, I read your post and I actually find it invigorating and enlightening that there's someone who instead of just being offended, is being offended and willing to back themselves up.
I've got a lot on my plate right now so I can't dedicate the time I would need to give you a well constructed response. But I should have time enough sometime in the next couple days. -
thank you so much IHLAOY. That is what I needed. I am sorry Barborbob. Can you forgive me? And if anyone prays I need prayer, Both my dad and my sister are in the hospital.
