When I was 8 years old, I thought a malevolent goddess-figure, Mishka, caused all that is evil, and therefore I had to appease her or perform rituals to prevent her magic from being used.
I could just as easily attribute things to Mishka as anyone could an act of God.
Mishka even has an unwritten scripture that I could refer to to attempt to win an argument.
The death of a family member? Mishka. Bad luck? Mishka. Fascism? MISHKA, MOTHERf---ING MISHKA, GODDAMMIT, MISHKA.
The Nerubani Scripture says that Mishka is repelled by polygons, so that's why I'm so good at geometry. Other people are not good at geometry because they don't believe in Mishka and they don't follow the scripture of rituals to repel Mishka.
...that sort of thing.
