Not many go around saying, "Oh my Buddha!"
~ EXODUS 20:7 ~
"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name." (NIV)
I'm not advacating that I'm perfect. I sin, just like everyone else.
Please take this into consideration. It's fairly easy to not use the Lord's name in vain. :)
Also, this was meant for Christians and non-Christians :) It's just a sign of respect :)
Thank you :) -
Sorry. No.

Okay then. Thanks for reading anyway. Obviously if you're not a Christian it won't hold much significance.
If you are a Christian please try to refrain from using the Lord's name in vain. If you're a Christian you believe the bible is true, hence will make a serious attempt to obey God's word. :) -
oh ok. I did it like once or twice, but still. It's good that you have faith in the lord. I do, and many people don't. *hi-fives you*
-
I try not to use it anyway just because it sounds stupid for an atheist to say "oh my God". I may have to give "oh my Buddha" a try though.
-
Omega,
*hi-fives back* :)
Thanks and because you've realised you've done it, even if it's only been once or twice, you are more likely to catch yourself doing it. -
I just try not to say it at all, so I say oh my cheez-its
-
I have very little respect for the religion, but I respect people's rights to practice it and refrain from doing so around those who would take offense from it. However, I am on the internet and I'd rather not have to police my exclamations on here.
Also, I'd like to make the point that why say "oh my god" when you can get creative with it?
"GOSH DIDDLY DARN IT" is pretty entertaining but family friendly. or "HOLY FISHBUCKETS"
or "oh my duckbutts" xD THINK ABOUT THE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES, GUISE. -
Eh I thought the Lord's name was Jehovah not "God"
God is just a word describing a higher power or supreme being. No one here is using God's name in vain, Oh My God isn't offensive you know and I am sure your God and mine doesn't mind us using that because it is not his name
Well that is my view unless people started saying "Oh My Jehovah" or "Oh My Allah" and stuff, that is using God's name in vain although the word -
Christians call our god "God." So when we say "Oh my god" we could be using His name in vain (depending on whether we mean god or God).
-
I use other people's imaginary friends name in vain and feel absolutely no remorse for it. It just holds no value for me. Although being raised in a Christian family and being forced to go to a private Catholic school for years, the idea has been so ingrained in to my head that sayings usually reserved for theistic people are still a part of my natural vocabulary.
-
I usually just say OMG. That means oh my gosh in my world.

thank you very much!
I totally agree with you!! -
Sorry to bump the thread. Reading a lot of garden posts tonight . One point to make , you don't have to believe fully in everything the bible says to be a Christian . I'm a Quaker (a branch of Christianity ) but my family are Methodists so I've grown up in quite a Christian household but I don't believe all that the bible says. I don't believe in hell and God knows I'm all for gay rights but does that mean I'm not a Christian ?
