Founded by American science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard (1911-1986) in 1955.
Scientology churches believe that a person's spirits can be cleared of previous painful experiences by auditing, freeing the person of stews and burdens that deprive them of happiness and self-realization. The first church was established in Los Angeles in 1954.
