If you think the god in Bible can't exist it doesn't mean there's no god.
Also if you're not Christian(or Jew or Muslim or whatever else)then it doesn't mean you have to be atheist(or agnostic aka something between these two).
The mistake is very common. When people lose faith in a religion they usually convert to Atheism. I don't say it's wrong but they think if Christianity is just a set of man made beliefs then god is the same. Sure, same can be said for the god in Christianity but not any god.
A god is a higher power who has created this world for some reason. Only if you believe that the previous statement doesn't make sense then you believe there's NO GOD.
A god is a higher power that has created this world and humans and he has given these humans some traits but later he'll punish them in the most cruel way because of what they did(that came from those traits). If you believe this statement doesn't make sense then you believe the gods in most religions can't really be a god.
Atheists disagree with the first statement while at least half of the people converted from Christianity(to Atheism) only disagree with the second statements(or sentences like that).
If I'm vague, I can explain more. -

I understand what you're saying and I agree with it actually.
I used to go to a Christian private school. I was raised Christian. And when I left I believed the second statement. The God of most religions is false. As I researched and delved deeper in to it, I found that I also agreed with the second statement.
So what I'm trying to say is that understanding that the theistic Gods of religion are all bulls--- is the first step towards renouncing all faith.
The only difference is the amount of thought you apply to the situation and time.
