I've been hearing about how people don't think it should be required that you take a Catholic religion course at a Catholic school.

WHAT!?!
Of course you should be required to take a Catholic religion course at a Catholic school! It's part of a Catholic education! Yes, different religions should be offered as electives, but if you go to a Catholic school, then you take the Catholic religion course, no matter your religion. If I went to a Muslim school, I would sit through the Muslim religion course. If I went to a Jewish school, then I would take the Jewish religion course.
Now, if you're not Catholic or simply don't care about your religion, then you shouldn't be required to take it every year. Yes, you should take it your first year, but you shouldn't have to take it all 4-5 years you're at a Catholic high school. Instead, you could take a course on your own religion, take another elective course, or have an extra study hall.
Really, the only reason I think it should be required that anyone who attends a Catholic high school take a Catholic religion course is to clear the air of any misconceptions about the Catholic religion. That's all it would be! A one-year course on the Catechism and you're done! In all honesty, I don't think it's enough, but I'm not shoving my religion down anyone's throats. -
I agree, but I would never go to a religious school. Since it appears most of us get a choice in which school we go to (I did), then if you choose to join a religious institution, surely there should be some religion in it?

Exactly.
