Thread Topic: I have an idea.

Recently I've been recieving alot of flak for being atheist on the concept that atheists have no moral values. That we justdo whatever suits us and only care for ourselves. So I spent some time thinking on it.
The theists were christian and they were saying that since Atheists dont follow the 10 commandments and that since we actually choose for ourselves what is right and what is wrong that we only do what is best for ourselves.
I am going to write a list. Not of James' 10 commandments, or the Commandments of an Atheist. No. I am going to write a list of simple guidelines to live by. No write or wrong, no eternal punishment for not following them, no divine connections, or supreme reward, or anything like that. No. A simple list of guidelines to live by. Things that dont point the blame at any choice or lifestyle. Things that dont tell you right and wrong. Things that simply are nice. Things that people maybe should consider doing, but that they arent in the wrong for not doing.
Am I making any sense? Or am I just blabbering? Opinions? Concepts I should include? Anything? -
I think whatever you do will be just fine. -
[IDEA 1]
In life, people tend to see things in what they want or dont want. I want this specific type of car, or I dont want to talk to these people, or I dont want to use this type of paint.
But consider this, there might be someone out there who doesnt want that type of car, there is someone who wants to talk to you, or that wants to use this type of paint.
At this point you are faced with an option. You can either have things your way, or let them have things their way.
Ask yourself, "What are the affects of either choice?" Will choosing another type of car make my parents feel happier knowing that I'm safer? What's so bad about talking to the person who wants to see you? And what do I have to lose from letting them pick the paint?
In life, there is no right or wrong. There is happiness. And given the opportunity, would it really hurt you that bad to let someone else feel happy?
:) have you smiled today? -
*applause* And I smiled when I read that.

tongue AdvancedChances are we follow the Ten Commandments as well. As I've said before, atheists are just people who don't need a book to tell them right from wrong.

by follow them, I meant that we dont live in fear of a supreme being damning us if we dont follow them. They arent divine texts written to govern humanity.
