5 signs of depression:
1. Distancing from others
If someone is participating less in activities than they used to, or simply not talking as much as they used to.
2. Differences in sleeping and eating habits
If someone is eating too much, or too little. If someone with depression feels really tired then it is still hard for them to drift off
3. Constant fidgeting
If someone can't sit still from tapping their foot to drumming with their hands. If they are restless, they might be suffering from depression. Or they simply have ADHD
4. Slower than normal
People suffering from depression will act slower, think slower, even sometimes move slower than they usually do. They might even take a while to finish a sentence
5. They are always tired
If they are always in bed or skipping dinner, or small things like that and using the excuse "I'm just tired", then they probably are just saying that to hide the fact that they are too depressed to deal with it.
They don't want to talk about it, so just leave them alone. They need their space. At the same time, be there for them. They may feel unloved or worthless, so show them that someone really cares about them. Sometimes all it takes is a hug. All it takes is someone to ask them if they're okay. And when they say no, to look into their eyes and say "I know you're not"
Depression is serious, and it can break people. Please, just tell them you love them and care about them. Don't take them to a therapist; the only people they want to talk to about it if they want to talk at all is those close to them.
