I'm actually really interested in mental illnesses, so watching this sub-forum descend into mindless circlejerking and endless threads of 'oh, what do you think of me, hehe? Then I'll say what I think of you, hehe. Here's a hint, it's only ONE f---ING WORD! LIKE! FOR f---S SAKE! TAKE IT TO THE f---ING LOUNGE, I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS s--- ANYMORE YOU EGOTISTICAL f---ERS! I GET IT! I GET IT! THERE ARE PEOPLE HERE YOU LIKE AND PEOPLE YOU HERE YOU DON'T LIKE! YOU DON'T NEED TO MAKE LITERALLY FIFTY THREADS ABOUT IT, f---! f---!'
Anyway, lets discuss schizophrenia. That's one of my favorites. Now, schizophrenia's got a bit of a bad rap in recent years. And older years. Generally people don't like it when others act weird, so most people's experience of schizophrenia is 'oh, like that guy in the movie who hears voices in his head,' which I think is disappointing, because schizophrenia is much more interesting than simple auditory and visual hallucinations.
Here's an neat anecdote I found online while reading up on this stuff from a guy who actually lives with schizophrenia. It really shows how deep the mental illness runs.
"I cant concentrate on television because I cant watch the screen and listen to what is being said at the same time. I cant seem to take in two things like this at the same time especially when one of them means watching and the other means listening. On the other hand I seem to be always taking in too much at the one time and then I cant handle it and cant make sense of it.
I tried sitting in my apartment and reading; the words looked perfectly familiar, like old friends whose faces I remembered perfectly well but whose names I couldnt recall; I read one paragraph ten times, could make no sense of it whatever, and shut the book. I tried listening to the radio, but the sounds went through my head like a buzz saw. I walked carefully through traffic to a movie theater and sat through a movie which seemed to consist of a lot of people wandering around slowly and talking a great deal about something or other. I decided, finally, to spend my days sitting in the park watching the birds on the lake. -
Wow, I learned something new about schizophrenia!
Thanks, and you're funny too. xD
