Timid NewbieSo, within my school area, most elementary and middle schools offer a tutoring program of sorts during the school day. Most of the classes are from the same group, rather than being hired specifically by the school. Within the tutoring program, it's customary to reward the students on what's sometimes a weekly basis with some sort of prize, and to give them a celebration at the end of the year.
Throughout my time in elementary and middle school, I was always considered to be on the brighter end of the intelligence spectrum, meaning that I was never eligible for the tutoring program. However, a few of my classmates were. Most of the time, the reason these people were expected to attend a tutoring session was because of their grades-- they simply didn't put forward the work ethic they needed. For lack of a better word, they were slackers.
These students would be regularly pulled out for their tutoring sessions, and would frequently return with some sort of reward. At the end of the year, they skipped class for a party.
I'm not trying to say that I was jealous of these students, or that I deserved any sort of reward more than they did. But was it fair to reward students who frequently chose to copy off of others or do little to no work instead of those who actually did participate and put forth effort? I'd like to know.
