I am a Socialist!
You may have heard me say "I am a socialist" before. I'm going to tell you exactly what that means.
Some of you may define the state of the Scandinavian countries as "socialist." That is not true, it is capitalism with a safety net.
What's so bad about capitalism with a safety net? The capitalism.
Let me show you a metaphor.
You have a plate of disgusting food that also makes you sick. You're given the option to put some flavoring on it to make it taste better. That flavoring is the safety net. The food is capitalism.
Obviously it's better to have a safety net, but how much better is it?
The food, even with flavoring, still gives you a bad case of the runs. Now let's see the other option, which the maker of the food doesn't want you to consider. "You can't make your own food," they say. "We make all the food."
Not so. You take back the supplies from these bad cooks and make your own food! You aren't so good at it, and it doesn't taste great, but at least it doesn't make you sick!
With more practice, you also get it to taste good.
That's socialism- taking the means of production to the working class. To choose otherwise is to choose the runs. You aren't telling me you want the runs, right?
Socialism is not capitalism with a safety net. In socialism, there are no capitalists. Socialism is the way to a classless society, where the workers see the full benefit of their labor. Socialism is the elimination of capitalism. Socialism destroys the old private property relations and paves the way to a classless, stateless, moneyless society.
Socialism is a radical change in the structure of society. That radical change, socialism is, is intended to create the conditions for an even better society in which property is held in common for the benefit of all, distributed "from each according to ability, to each according to need." No more homeless and no more starving, no more things going to waste because they are hoarded and never used! No more domination by old, oppressive hierarchies such as sexism and racism! True freedom, not the piddly excuse for "freedom" they yodel about on campaign ads! All capitalists, conservative or liberal, have lied to you! Yodeled about "freedom" and "democracy" while giving you JACK! Socialism aims to destroy this old order and install a truly free, democratic order!
That society is a true socialist's goal. Not capitalism, not capitalism with a safety net, not anything with 'capitalism' in the name other than the total destruction of capitalism.
Socialism is better than what Scandinavia has, so if you like that, come be a socialist with me.
