If everyone likes you, you've probably compromised yourself too much.
Think of that next time someone opposes you. -

This could also be taken in the sense that you're making someone more important by hating them. If you dislike someone, make them insignificant by being indifferent.
This probably isn't at all related to the point you wanted to get across, but it's what I got from it. -
