tongue NewbieI would prefer public financing of elections to term limits. If a politician is a good one he should be able to serve as long as the people let him. Public financing, however, does solve the problem of corporate money in politics and would make elections more competitive, though for the last couple of years, including the upcoming elections in November, being an incumbent doesn't seem to help much. But those are thoughts on corrupt politicians.

tongue NewbieAnd for the record, I don't want to be a Senator- I want to be one of the people getting pelted with tear gas outside my Senator's office!

barberbob2 Novicegerman, german, Germain!, Germain Jackson!, Jackson 5! DEO!!
yah, i just made no freakin sense. -
The Godfather NewbieOh with tear gas! You poor things. You should be allowed to use violence and be so loud you disrupt the movement of our country. Those b------s using force against force! Why can't we just be friends!
I think our freedom gets abused. If we were fascist or at least had stricter laws, we'd be alot safer. That's another forum.
-
tongue NewbieOur freedom is more important than our safety. It's "give me liberty or give me death", not "give up your freedoms or we're all gonna die."
-
Either way, we're all going to die.
-
The Godfather NewbieUmm....no were not going to all die. you should leave. And tongue I now see your point. Freedom does have consequences. Look at every revolution that ever took place in history! At least we live in America though. I mean Bloody Sunday in Russia/Ireland for freedom.....that would be worse.
-
Yes, we are all going to die. It's a fact of nature. Research it if you must. There is a lifespan on every living creature.
When I say we're all going to die, I mean eventually, not in the next five minutes. -
tongue NewbieBasically what I'm saying is safety isn't worth it if you aren't living in freedom. It's like they say in New Hampshire, live free or die. The example most evident in our own country is the Patriot Act obviously, which is a violation of privacy and of our Constitution, and it gives our government a scary amount of power.
-
The Godfather NewbieIf you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. We're not living in a "1984" type-government here. Because of it, we caught many terrorists, two of which had plans to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge.
-
tongue NewbieNo, that's not true. The government has the power to listen in on your private telephone conversations, which often include very personal issues. And who's to say we couldn't live under a "1984" type of government? If you say anything bad about the leader in power, the government hears it? If we ever have a leader who wants to squash opposition, they have the tools to do it. And more than anything, the Patriot Act betrays our own values, so essentially the terrorists have won.
