Some of my beliefs
Thread Topic: Some of my beliefs
-
1. As a third-generation immigrant, immigrants should always be allowed into a safe country, regardless of overpopulation
2. You should get one chance to be president/prime minister. If you lose the election as president/prime minister, you can’t run in that position of power again. It’s what Australia does, and I feel like America should do it too
3. If you’re going to advocate for someone problematic or if you’re going to preach a controversial opinion, don’t be surprised when people argue against it. Provide reasons as to why you think that. You can’t say something potentially ignorant and refuse to elaborate
4. 9 times out of 10, people who say “did you just assume my gender?” are cis people making fun of trans ppl, or trans ppl making fun of cis people
5. You can’t erase years of very gay history and say homosexuality has always been a sin because your god said so. Not everyone is your religion, there is not one true god. Respect other people, always. Homosexuality is not hurting you
6. POC, women’s and LGBT people’s rights do not oppress your own -
7. If you’re an LGBTQ+ “ally” and you advocate for someone who wants to take away the rights of LGBTQ+ people and you don’t have a good reason, you are not an ally. If you believe men and women are equal, and you advocate for someone who wants to take away either men or (more often) women’s rights without a redeeming reason, you do not believe that men and women are equal. Same with racism, being pro-choice, etc.

7 just speaks to me on a deep level
AGREED -
Frrrr
8. Most definitions of cultural appropriation isn’t acceptable. Cultural appropriation is when someone adapts aspects of a culture inappropriately. I definitely think it exists, but certain things cannot be gatekept, like:
- hairstyles
- piercings
- makeup (with exceptions to black-face. That’s not even cultural appropriation, just plain racist)
- (most) clothes (with exceptions, like if only the elders of a culture can wear a certain thing and you’re wearing it and associating it with that culture and you’re not an elder of that culture, it’s best not to wear it)
- languages (if a person wants to speak a native Australian language but is not indigenous, let them. It’s a language, not a super secret code. Especially when the language is dying out; anyone using it is a good thing when fluent speakers are few)
Debate is also welcome in this thread, so if you agree or disagree with any of these, feel free to let me know without being disrespectful :) -
9. Everyone should vote. It’s a law in Australia that everyone votes, and in my opinion that should be adopted by other parts of the world. If the only people voting are old white people, then politicians only have to cater to and secure the vote of old white people. Part of why I think Trump ended up winning

ok so personally
i think everyone should vote but also i feel like the government should gather all of the top issues/priorities in an election and then have people define words within that if yk what i mean
like if reproductive rights are an important issue then people should have to be able to define what an abortion is
or like if people care about the economy then they should have to define what a tariff is
like idk i know its impossible but i wish u could only vote if u showed that youd done some research at least
but ik thats problematic asf and would be used to like discriminate or smt -
oh yeah, definitely
people are way too uneducated about elections, so a common problem here is people voting for whoever because there aren't many resources
everyone should vote but definitely should also do research
