Thread Topic: what the f u c k

Because everything I've looked into seems to point to CRT just being racism with extra steps
-
How?
Critical race theory (CRT) is a cross-disciplinary examination, by social and civil-rights scholars and activists, of how laws, social and political movements, and media shape, and are shaped by, social conceptions of race and ethnicity.
From Wikipedia
Here are a couple articles I found talking about it as well.
Conservatives seem to think that Critical race theory means "all white people are bad and racist and should feel bad," but that's not even close to what it is -
On that last line, I think I heard about CRT actually making kids think that way?
Something about a kid feeling sad because he wasn't black or something idr -
Huh. i thought CRT was the belief that people think or act differently based on their race.
-
Any sort of source whatsoever on that? Or is it a "my friend heard from their friend" type of thing
I highly doubt that really happened, but even if it did, that's not what CRT is, or what it's about -
I can't rember
also
"They are saying that white people living now have a moral responsibility to do something about how racism still impacts all of our lives today."
That's setting off some serious red flags in my head.
It's giving me the same vibes as harassing a child because their dad was a criminal. I'm honestly getting those vibes tbh. -
Who was it, Morgan Freeman I think(?) who said that the best way to deal with racism is to not talk about it or something?
-
Well if those are the "vibes" you want to get from it, I can't stop you, but that's not what it means. It's saying that the people who have the ability to enact social change, should. By influencing political policies, protesting, etc. It's not seeing you should feel guilty for being white.
Ah yes, Morgan Freeman, well known actor AND social activist. /s -
1. Was it Morgan Freeman who said it or am i bad memory
2. It's saying that the people who have the ability to enact social change, should.
ok so
A) Why is it considered a necessary course?
B) I don't understand why that's being taught in schools. All it seems to teach is Racism in america? Which is already covered by: US history, a course that is absolutely required.
So it seems like either I'm misunderstanding the topic or CRT just teaches things that US history already teaches, making it entirely unnecessary. -
Do you not see racism as a problem in America?
-
Not nearly as big of a problem as it was 200 years ago
We've seriously progressed quite a bit in the past 2 centuries-
ok i gotta go, I'll come back on later to finish my statement -
Are you comfortable with accepting that racism does still exist in any capacity? Whether you think it's as bad as it used to be is unimportant- the fact of the matter is that it does still exist and it has power in this country. History will teach you that racism existed, yes, but critical race theory exists to teach you how it still has a hold in our society, how to recognize it and how to combat it. Do you not view that as a worthwhile use of time?
-
I am comfortable accepting that racism exists. That doesn't mean I like it.
In my personal experience, history covers much more than just "America racist", we learn about what are basically true horror stories, slavery, etc.
Personally, I have...
Ok I forgot what I was gonna say.
something about not needing school to know that, i don't remember -
maybe it'll come back to me if i do more research
-
You could have stopped after the first sentence. That's all anyone needs to know.
