Before anyone asks let me define it for you
I'm sure most people are aware of the phrase "minimum wage, minimum effort." Quiet quitting is essentially a variation of that.
It's a side effect of poor management & a lack of appreciation towards workers. Instead of leaving a job, more people are simply putting in the bare minimum and detaching themselves from their work to deal with their poor work environment & as protest against corporate greed.
So anyways I wanted to talk about it. Many news outlets are coining it as "gen z being lazy." Do you think it's simply entitlement or do you think it's a bigger issue than that? -
It's definitely a bigger issue than workers being entitled. In some positions, it can be beneficial to "go above and beyond," which can result in promotions, raises, etc. However in most positions in large companies or corporations there is literally no benefit to working harder.
I work for Sam's Club, which is owned by Walmart. I am a very, small cog in a very large machine. While my direct supervisors may care about me as a person, Sam's Club and Walmart do notI. Personally, I make what I consider to be a pretty decent amount of money and am treated fairly well, but many are not. If Walmart and other large corporations could get away with paying their workers less and treating them worse than they already do, they absolutely would. Walmart does not care about me at all.
I'm good at my job, and I do try to come with a good attitude and do my best everyday. Some days that's more, some days that's less. But I have literally zero incentive to work myself harder than I'm comfortable just to make customers a little bit happier or to make Walmart just a little bit more money
