Here's my opinion on the Stanley Cups:
I don't understand?
It's a cup, but.. Why do you need accessories for a cup?
Can someone explain why people want these cups so badly? Please. Genuinely. -
I'd like to hear other opinions on this matter, but...
Keep it respectful, please!! -
Person with the least amount of interest in all sports but comes from a hockey family
Basically, it's just another trophy hockey teams can earn if they are the best. They accessorize it to match their team, usually. It's like winning the Super Bowl but for sweaty guys in giant suits who hit each other and hit a black circle with a long stick into a net. -
yessss i love hockey
i think they mean the other Stanley cups and I don't have one but ive been wanting one, i just like the colors and i think they look fun -
Oh
Hockey fans like to think they're on the same level as their heros. Also, they make for fun decoration anyways
(This is extremely sarcastic, don't take anything I say seriously pls) -
Ah - Though, the GROWN adults swarming target earlier this year inspired me to ask this question
-
And yes, I meant the Stanley tumblers , not any Hockey cup
-
Because most grown adults are just large children
-
...Dang- And they "run the world."
-
I mean, they're also the reason the world is how it is with global warming and other things GTQ will not enjoy me saying.
I have a feeling that it's either a slow and steady climb for the better or it's going to be a 10 story drop for the worse from here and we're going to be the ones that have to deal with it -
But, on a less anger-fueled remark on my part, the off-brand Stanley Cups are useful and practical for holding small items!
-
Yeah. Also, DON'T get me started on Gen Alpha kids (the iPad kids specifically)....
-
whooo, I could go on an angry rant about that.
-
No generation is perfect, honestly, just some less so

I genuinely think the market for Stanley cups is considerably smaller than the current social media outrage makes it seem.
I only have anecdotal evidence to back this up, but if I had to guess I'd say that the majority of adults who went to target to buy the valentines Stanley's were scalpers.
I watch FB marketplace like a hawk and the day after the target fiasco there were dozens of valentines Stanley's being sold for $200+. Two weeks later, and the majority of those listings are still up because surprise surprise, social media over sold the hype around those cups and most sane adults don't actually think spending $200 on a cup is justifiable.
I think the cups were naturally picking up some traction nationally and I was seeing more people who had them in the month leading up to the valentines fiasco, but then TikTok over blew the whole situation and made it seem much bigger than it truly was.
Now a lot more people DONT want a Stanley cup because they think it's cringe to be a sheeple for social media trends. Tbh, I think if you like the cup and want one go get it and if you don't like it then don't. We don't need to judge others personal choices or worry about being judged for wanting to enjoy something.
There is something to be said about the consumer culture surrounding the Stanley trend. A lot of essayists online have already pointed out how wasteful the people hoarding the cups are, although I genuinely think they are a select few people actually hoarding them.
Ultimately, just before you consume anything, practice mindfulness and consider where your purchase will end up in the future, but you don't have to live like a minimalist. Consumerism is virtually inescapable in today's age and I don't think we should be punishing ourselves for the overconsumption problems corporations create.
TLDR; enjoy what you want to or don't, it's not a big deal. Just don't buy from scalpers and remember social media isn't real life :)
