In my own thread, I want to make a statement to clear things up, if Espie sees it.
So, Christmas is about the birth of Christ, yes, but the original purpose of giving each other gifts was to remember the gift God gave us.
Whether people give gifts for other reasons is up to them, but from the Christian perspective, that's what the gifts are about.
As for Halloween, I think the initial meaning of it was to scare evil spirits away(? I genuinely can't remember right now), which wasn't a Christian practice, however, these days we just dress up in costumes and look for candy. Again, from a Christian view, how you celebrate holidays is how you persieve them. But we really shouldn't bash others for what they decide to do. If they'd like to hear about Christian morals, then you can tell them, but don't chase people and tell them they're being evil and such. If they don't want to hear it, it won't be accepted at any rate. On the opposite end, though, people who celebrate differently shouldn't shame people for their views of the holidays according to their faith.
That's all. I wanted to just clear up that holidays aren't necessarily evil, but how you treat them. -
