We are closeted from our families. They think we are straight christians and we just don't correct them because it's not worth it to try to explain it to people who have 40 years of sunk cost fallacy preventing them from ever deconstructing their beliefs..
I'd rather canvas them gently to new ideas than ostracize ourselves. I don't tolerate bigotry though. If they start saying homophobic things I criticize them. I just won't allow myself to be the subject of their criticism -

According to christians and biblical scholars, the reason christians don't follow all the rules in Deuteronomy is because of covenant theology which states that when Jesus came to earth he gave new commandments to be followed, and old laws only still stand if God repeated them under the new covenant.
If we follow this logic though, we must also dispell deuteronomy 22:5 which reads,
“A woman shall not wear a man’s apparel, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for whoever does such things is abhorrent to the LORD your God,”
This teaching has not been replicated in the new testament. You can read through the HRC's research on what the bible says about transgenderism here.
There are thousands and thousands of hours of literature and research done that disproves many commonly held fundamentalist beliefs. Most, if not all anti LGBT and feminist theology is grossly misconstrued and in many cases completely fabricated later to protect the social hierarchys of archaic civilizations.
I am more than happy to add additional sources for anyone who genuinely wants to learn more about this. I will not however, be providing sources for people who will not actually read them and just want to argue about literature they've never read before. -

Jesus would've eaten with transgenders. Jesus is the most progressive person in history and so much of the bible is a direct contradiction to his teachings. I want to support queer Christians and Christian Allies too. You are important and your beliefs are valid.
