Apparently an encasement around the sun is called a Dyson Sphere
-
I wonder how you could make a successful one.
-
Maybe the same way that Earth works.
Imagine the core of the earth like a star.
But Dyson spheres are supposed to be mostly hollow, and there's no wiggle room between the Earth's core and the rock/dirt
Granted it's not as if we'd be trying to orbit anything.
If you really made the sphere big and thick enough, would the gravitational differences be enough for it to be successful?
Maybe not. This is a star we're about. It could be eaten from the inside out over a long period of time. -
I found the book it's called Orbitsville
-
I found my new rabbit hole
-
Oh there's a concept called a ring world.
It would definitely be more sustainable
But you still have a problem of neverending maybe even desert-like summer.
Oh I know, engines to make the ring slowly go up and down. Maybe even tilt it like Earth is. -
If I would ever go into physics, I would only want to make hypotheses, not do the math to figure out if it might be possible. Because, while I'm good at math, I don't actually enjoy doing it.
I would be the one guy who's like,"Begone peasant, figure out if my brilliant idea is plausible."
Which I'm not going to do.
So I'm not going to go into physics. -
Wait there's this whole problem of them not having an atmosphere.
Goal for tomorrow - research how to make atmospheres -
Another question is how many rings could you make?
-
Actually I don't think I'd mind the math
When I came up with a Dyson sphere last year I was thinking of it being much closer to the sun. I did an hour of math before I realized my research kept giving me different heats of the sun.
So I looked it up and the sun's corona was two million degrees, which put all that to a stop.
And while I was upset I'd wasted an hour only for it to come up in failure, while I was doing it I was excited at the prospect of what if my idea was feasible.
So maybe I will go into physics. -
You'd also probably need something stronger than ozone.
-
🥺 uoy evol I.
-
Probably have some sort of translucent or transparent material blocking a bunch of the UV rays and then have an ozone layer
Oh oh oh
Make giant compartments containing elements of the atmosphere inside the ring, and then when it's time to make it actually livable, release it, and then the gravitational pull should keep it in place. -
Aw thank you, same to you
