why does the lgbtq community use the rainbow?
To my knowledge, it is, and always has been, a christian symbol?
I am very confused someone pls explain? -
it existed in nature before Christianity wrote their fanfic claiming it as theirs. /lh
But, for real, it exists outside of christian centrism. -

So, on a serious note, a lot of other religions have explanations for what a rainbow is, where it comes from and the like, and so it can't inherently be a symbol for any one religion.
I'm not quite sure which story in the bible features a rainbow (( I believe its noah's arc but im unsure))
While an example of another cultures use of the rainbow, would be Iris the Greek Goddess of rainbows. [[ she's actually the personification I belive but again, I'm not 100%]]
It's important to remember that the lgbtqia+ communities rainbow is a specific pattern and set of colours with meanings! To represent the spectrum of identities
While tradiotnal rainbows are also specific ^-^ -
The word gay used to mean jovial. The peace symbol was originally made as a British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. The modern word for pharmacy came from the word "witchcraft." Things change over time. That's a part of society is that we evolve and our understanding of things changes.
Technically with your logic LGBT people could be mad that anyone can wear one earring in their ear now since that used to mean you were gay. People in gangs could get mad that people wear colored shoe laces casually since that used to signify allegiance.
Things don't have to have one meaning either. Rainbows can be used for a lot of things. It's literally just the entire spectrum of our color so it'd be silly to assume only LGBT people could use it. -
@fifidee (Yeah it's noah's ark
