Charlotte is a 15 year old girl. Her father is abusive, and her mother is too afraid to intervene. Her only escape from her home life is the two young children she babysits for. Their mother- a single mom that works all the time to support them- treats her like she's their sister, driving her places, offering her food, and asking her to spend nights there to keep her away from home. She's been watching these kids since she was 13, and when she dies protecting them from a burglar, it seems only natural that she'd want to hang around. Who else is going to protect her found family?

Her spirit hangs around the kids, following them even to school. While she is powerless in her corporeal form, she has been known to possess the children to remove them from dangerous situations or fight their battles for them. The kids are aware of her presence, and welcome her. Their mother never will believe that Charlotte is still there. She dies in a car jacking 15 years later, orphaning her two children.

The two- a young man of 24 named Nico, and a young lady of 20 named Adelita- are old enough now to support themselves, but their mothers death leaves them bitter toward the world. She's the second important person in their life to die because of petty crime gone wrong. They're close, but somehow Nico doesn't realize Adelita is acting strange until she comes home with a broken wrist one night. Unable to hide the injury, she evades his questions.

I'm changing the direction I was headed in with the charlotte story.
adelita hasn't been hurt.
she's just been going to the library and staying there late every day.
nico asks why, and she hesitantly pulls an occult book from her bag and hands it over. he doesn't understand- charlotte's ghost is the only thing close to supernatural that's ever mattered to them. he thought. but adelita explains, she's been looking for ways to bring charlotte back. their mother had passed on to the afterlife she'd subscribed to, but Charlotte could still be saved! it sounded crazy, but they were both angry enough at the world, and sad enough about their losses, that it kind of made sense. he felt he should cut her off as she rattled off the details she had uncovered, tell her to be reasonable, but even he wasn't feeling particularly reasonable as he listened to her. she'd put a lot of thought into this. it seemed... possible. -
so owl demons could interact with souls, manipulate them... bind them. and wasn't a ghost just a soul that wanted to stay?
but what could they bind charlotte's ghost to?
something that could move freely. something strong enough to carry out her will.
a suit of armor? nico knows he shouldn't encourage this. this is insane. but the suggestion falls out of his mouth, and he doesn't try to stop it.
no, adelita says. a warm body. something that won't stand out in public.
now nico does say something. what is she implying? that they murder someone? dig up a corpse? that's sick. they can't.
no. she's already considered this. charlotte's ghost will need a fully functioning body to inhabit. one that died of old age will fall apart shortly. one that died young will have sustained an injury that will prevent the body from functioning properly for her.
nico doesn't feel well. he should be more worried. why is he listening to this?
