So I was sort of thinking mechanical engineer
But then I realized I don't want to be the one making the charts and figuring out how to make something work and all the mechanics of it, I want to actually make the thing and build it.
But I feel like if I go into that I'd be put onto an assembly line or something.
And I don't want to say look at what we built, I want to say look at what I built.
I suppose one option would be to go into fixing things, but I don't find as much appeal to that.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions or something, I feel like this might be sort of a dead end. -
So be an inventor. Invent something new and build it. then decide to keep producing the item you made after you get in patented, and it passes whatever it needs to pass. That's the only way I can think of.
-
I remember thinking that, and I really liked the idea, but then I was like, "What could I possibly invent?"
-
But I mean, I have a creative mind. I might not be able to come up with something now, but maybe later.
-
In regards to what I could possibly invent, I mean.

That's true. Maybe you could research it and see if you can find something that needs improvement. Like maybe make new electronic stuff. I remember listening to my older brother talk about the invention of the AK-47. The guy took a regular gun and changed it so it wouldn't jam in the cold winters of Russia. Maybe you could do something similar. Does that sound like something you can do?
-
Yeah
-
So, try that. If it doesn't work, then try something else. But you're only 15, right? Give it some time to research it.
-
Yeah, well we're figuring out which college I'm going to this summer. So I wanted to figure this out as soon as possible so that I know which one to go to.

Ah. What things are you interested in most?

So my boyfriend and his friend both worked in machine operations for a few years. It required no experience, but they were able to translate their experience in that to now owning a full independent business. My boyfriend's friend developed an artificial muscle in his spare time and is now going through the necessary steps to open his own business to manufacture it and my boyfriend is working with him to help.
As a start, the upward mobility in operation jobs is incredible if you're looking for a good way to get into the industry. My boyfriend started as a sandblaster last year and is now one of the head operators for the entire warehouse. Remember that manufacturing is a versatile term and doesn't always mean stupid things. My boyfriend makes guns for a living and has learned the skills necessary to create his own gun if he wanted to.
Anyways that's long but the general point is find a job for now that can translate into long-term experience towards your goals. -
Um...a lot
If this gives you a clearer picture, I love every subject in school (besides PE of course).
For years I wanted to be a chemist and then an author on the side.
But then at the very beginning of this school year I was like, "Actually I'm not sure I want to do that anymore."
And then we did chemistry stuff during science, and while I liked actually conducting the experiments, I didn't like all the other things about it.
So then I thought maybe a mechanical engineer.
And now I'm here. -
Maybe a computer hard drive? Or a usb card with more memory?
-
Wow that's a good idea
-
@Halo, I want to figure out what I'm going to do first before I actually start doing it.
